back from first trip
We just got back from our first trip with our tradewind and couldn't be happier how it went. For a virtually total redo (minus shell removal/floor replacement) we had only one glitch, a thermostat on the furnace that worked great turning on the heat but didn't shut it back off. One of the only things we didn't replace, the thermostat will come off the wall this week before our second trip.
We took 5 days up in the mountains and had a blast. Can totally see how people would live full time in these. We sold our older motorhome to upgrade and wow we just had no idea what we'd end up with. The dinette setup worked great, but now we have a bed in the trailer that is more comfortable than our bed at home
We wanted to say thanks to all the people that helped us with all the how-to's and what to buy, what not to buy's etc. We really came into this with no idea what we were doing other than basic construction/mechanical skills and wouldn't have come close to what we have without the help of so many of you. Of course, still plenty of little projects, but I have a feeling we're going to take a few more trips than previously planned this summer.

Neato!
Great pictures of a beautiful trailer out in it's element. Glad your trip went so well. I have been awol so haven't been following your progress, so I'll ask a few simple questions to fill in my blanks.
Where did you go? Stay in Washington state? How many miles did you put on it?
How are you handling the greywater in that old thing? Onboard greywater tank, or a roll around & go dump it kind?

We put about 400 miles on it this week, not a long trip, but didn't want to go too far for the first outing. We went to Fish Lake at the Cove (a small family owned "resort" of sorts, with about 50 camp spots, mostly no hook ups, just the very basics. We picked up a 22 gallon blue tote with a hitch attachment. We used that and dumped when needed down the road a few hundred feet.
We had so much fun we're thinking of going out on another next week. Next month we're doing about an 800 mile trip.

We decided to add a 4 day trip next week (wife and I are both teachers and newly done with the school year) to Rimrock lake park on US 12 about an hour from here just for fun. Our big trip (for us) is to Wallowa Lake in Joseph Oregon for 8 days just after the 4th holiday. Next year we plan to do some Oregon Coast, down to California stuff once we've worked out all the major bugs.

Sweet pictures! I can smell the air up there! Fresh, clean, cool. . .MAN i miss that. We did a 10 day trip with friends and our horses from SW Missouri to Pelton Creek in Wyoming. It was awesome as well. We have yet to take a "Trip" in the Crappy Camper (AS) as of yet but hope to one day. We are doing an extensive remodel sooo you know how that goes.
We bought her on Ebay last July and have gone camping a few times locally, but nothing major. We can't wait until she's up and On the Road Again. HEY. . That would make a great song!. .
Thanks for posting the pictures.

goransons...I was in the Oregon area a couple years ago and am extremely jealous! I am also an educator (elementary principal), however my wife works in the business world, so we are somewhat restricted to her vacation dates. This year it looks like my son and I are going for a trip down to Kentucky while my wife is working away...

While our area leaves a lot in many ways to be desired, it is cool that our city is located in a desert, but we can drive 15 minutes and hit the tree line if we head west into the cascades. Then of course we can head east a couple hours and hit the blue mountains. It definately is one of the perks. Last 5 years we've been restoring our house so haven't used summers for much more than project finishing, and last summer was buying the AS and starting the restoration. We love this "maybe we should go camping tomorrow" thing. It is weird, but we're willing to live with it

trip #2
Well as said before, we enjoyed trip #1 so much we decided to sneak in an improptu trip #2 to Rimrock Lake, which is about 45 minutes from here. Was another AS there (seen in the far right of the wide shot), faded #'s 17676, no owner there, has the space rented for a month or so. Great views from the windows, great weather, but back home for a few weeks before the longer trip. So far no major (knock on wood) issues in the shakedown department.
