AS Motorhome accident

My parents sent this picture to me today. I believe they said it happened on 87 south of Payson Arizona.

I tried googling for more information, but nothing pops up. Hope everyone is okay....

...another Queen of the Road is gone, never to roam again.

Most likely an engine fire, as modern fuels have Ethanol which corrodes the 30+ year old rubber fuel lines. All it takes is a crack near that hot motor and things go very bad quickly. We have lost a number of these rare Queens over the recent years to engine fires.

Glad mine's diesel.

Cheers
Tony

This Arizona DOT tweet says it was a fire:

https://twitter.com/ArizonaDOT/statu...17015456182272

There is an empty car dolly behind the RV so maybe the occupants got out OK and freed up the car?

Looks like a 345 with the tag axle. Always sad to see an iconic RV in that condition. My hope is that the owners made it out safely. It looks like the toad was removed from the trailer, a good sign.

What a shame. I hate to see real Airstream MOHOs trashed.

A post on Airstream addicts quoted DOT sources saying that there were no injuries.

Does sound like there was more than one occupant. Also sounds Like they had been doing some long climbs.

For me while climbing the high pass in Colo. I was wishing that I had someone with me to drive the toad and ease the load on the coach.

That surely is a sad sight, glad everybody is ok

Cheers Richard

Fire

My cousin had his beautiful 370 burn up due to a gas leak. Very sad. I've just finished replacing all of my fuel lines again.

Yes, sad indeed.
I second your sentiment Bob. What was the appox cost of your system?
Looks like a source for a set of 6 Alcos tho....

Recently did my fuel lines, which led me to the discovery of a badly fried starter motor cable, as those that follow my thread will know.
So much that can go wrong....

Damn, that looks like a very serious fire.

I have lined the inside of the doghouse with this flexible self-adhesive material, which is used extensively in Motorsport. Recommended.

https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p...-zf-a25-1-1sa?

I like to mount one of the fire extinguishing balls in the engine bay, but I am not 100% sure that they can withstand the heat and movement.

And here I thought I was being overly cautious with fire suppression paint under cockpit area, as well as fire-proof fabric to go as underlayment on cockpit floor. Guess I need to stop all progress, and start looking at fuel line size and start replacing. I'm honestly hoping to get mine back on the road this summer for a trip to Virginia, but if I'm unable to get all of the fuel line replace, believe I'll wait another season. Took me forever to find mine, even longer to pay it off! No way will I put my dream vehicle in jeopardy to satisfy my hunger for travel. Slow and steady! Will look into a fire suppression system as well now!

Thanks, Derek

Man, what an absolute horrible experience to go through. Must have taken awhile for the fire service to get there from the looks of it....must have burned for quite awhile. As in all cases, gratitude if no one was injured!! The more of these I see the more glad I am for my diesel for sure. Though electrical fires are very common and we all know what our factory wiring looks like. Poor folks, rolling along and all of the sudden this!

Now, about those rims?

I'm going to hell, no question

I'm sure someone will give you the exact specs on the fuel lines. I'm thinking 1/2" main fuel and 3/8" return line? I don't know the size for sure but the size should be common and easy to buy by the foot. I would also be inclined to wrap the main fuel line in reflective heat wrap to ward off vapour lock. Others I'm sure will be able to give you better info on what they did. Just make sure you do it.

A very cheap form of insurance.

Cheers
Tony

Yep, I still see flames. The interesting thing is the seeming lack of fire around the 125lb propane tank.....

I'm sure the owner is still running down the highway......if that sucker's full and pops I'm sure there'd be just an emblem or so left.

I wonder what goes through first responders minds when they come across stuff like this........send the new guy??????

I'm sure we'll see the rims on Ebay soon although you might want to ask for better pics of the fronts.

Cheers
