When I had fuel delivery problems after I installed my TBI kit in my 84, I ended up installing an in tank pump and new fuel lines. The old lines were under sized and there were numerous splices with rubber hose on both the supply & return lines.
I used stainless lines and ran them from the rear of the engine under the drive shaft. It may not be kosher, but it got it done.
If you install a aftermarket electric fuel pump you need to make sure that there is a auto shutoff if the engine dies. If the fuel supply ruptures, and the engine dies, you wont be pumping fuel to the fire.
The TBI computer does this if it is wired correctly. Of course if the return line ruptures, it will keep pumping until the tank is empty or power is removed.
