Anyone know what this is for?

Dear all,
Beneath my right twin bed (as you face front of trailer), in the storage compartment beneath the bed, closest to the nightstand, is compartment divided in half longitudinally with 2 plastic containers that fill both spaces. I was having a heckava time pulling the top container. Yesterday, I also pulled out the bottom plastic container which is also a little snug. Beneath it was a tic-tac-toe wood-like thingamajig that fits into the floor of the compartment. I removed it, then put the bottom container back in - slid easily into place. I put other container into the top compartment and it slid easily into place. Before I get rid of the thingamaggie though, wanted to find out if others have this thing, and if they know what it's for. I have a 2019 Int'l 25' Sig, FB model. Will attach photo to inform the discussion.

Our '17 26U has the same thing. I think it's to keep the containers from interfering with the hinges and their covers. They are a PITA !!!

Hi

It's just a spacer to make your life easier. Seems like it's not doing that . If things work better without it, there's no reason at all to keep it. Spare towels for wiping down the dogs might actually do a better job as a spacer.

New design at Airstream by someone who has never camped in one.

That is a factory fix to prevent the storage bins from accidentally unlatching the euro hinges when you pull the bins out.

One modification you might consider is to ditch those European cabinet hinges [which were never really intended for this kind use IMO], and install a piano hinge on the bottom edge of the door. You would also need some kind of surface latch(es) at the top, to keep the door closed.

With this mod, the entire space would be more usable, and nothing will be in the way when you slide containers/stuff in and out. You could probably figure out a combination of Sterilite containers which would fit snugly in the entire space, in order not to slide around during towing.

Yes . . . not exactly why you got a brand new Airstream -- to modify the cabinetry! -- but sooner or later you will get around to lots of mods like this IMO.

In any event, have fun with the 25', the same model we used to have many moons ago!

Happy trails,

Peter

PS -- Ditto to Dan, Bob and Terry as to the purpose of the dividers.
