Any good parks in or near Baton Rouge?

Just wondering if anybody knows of any good parks in the Baton Rouge area? We're going to be visiting friends for a day or so in April.

We much prefer state or city (or national parks). I couldn't find any state or national ones nearby (online search).

We don't care for the KOA's or most private parks that line you up close together (I know... beggars can't be choosers!)

Thanks.

Pardon the bump... still wondering about parks in BR.
Anybody ever stay at the Farr Park & RV campground - seems its run by the city of BR.

I noticed that you said that you don't care for KOAs, but I'll pass this on anyway. We travel across I-10 on a somewhat regular basis, and have stayed at the KOA at exit 10 on I-12 just east of Baton Rouge on several occasions, and found it to be convenient to the highway, and nicely kept. Each of our stays was only one night, so we can't really comment on the amenities.

I live in Denham Springs, just outside of Baton Rouge. The KOA in Denham Springs is very convenient to the interstate and fairly nice. My parents park their motor home there when they come to see us. If you don't mind being about 45 minutes from Baton Rouge, Tickfaw State park is very nice. It is in Springfield, La. between Baton Rouge and Hammond. The park is on a small river, has boardwalks through the swamp and has a good museum. The facilities are nice too. I can't think of any other place in or near Baton Rouge, although I will keep my eyes open for you. If you strike out, you can park at my house. I have a 30 amp hookup and water but no sewer.

We don't usually care for KOAs or Privates either for long term camping; however, having said that, we do use them for "in transit" overnighters and have found the KOA in Denham to be nice considering that neck of the woods is a wasteland for camping sites. Like most KOAs, it's a little close to the Interstate but after a day on the road we were always too tired to care. Good luck and HAPPY TRAILS
