Allstays Camp & RV - New Pricing Plan

We've been heavy users of Allstays Camp & RV since 2012 or so. It has been a tremendous resource for us as we travel. We've used it to locate remote, off-grid camping in National Forests, any number of commercial campgrounds, county campsites, Flying J's, Cracker Barrel, propane dealers, dump stations, you-name-it.

It remains the only app we have ever paid for and at $9.99 it seemed pretty steep!

A few years ago we found that we had to purchase a second copy for another cell phone. So now we've paid 2X $9.99. But still very much worth it.

Both of us received an email recently indicating Allstays was changing its pricing model to a subscription-based product but we would be grandfathered-in and would not have to pay the recurring charge.

I didn't give it much thought until yesterday when the app updated itself (apparently) and now I can't use the product. A window pops up and indicates I can register for a free one-week trial and then sign up for $19.99 per year.

I know Android users have already lost their access to Allstays but those with iOS phones have been using Allstays for the one-time price for years. We've recommended the app to hundreds of people. My feeling for the tool may be changing if I'm forced into a new pricing plan.

I sent an email to customer service late last night to inquire about my "grandfather" status. no response yet.

Anyone else going through this?

I logged on to AllStays yesterday, pop message reading about grandfather-ing. I updated the app and it appears to be working. I would reach out to them. I use IOS phone.

Sign of the times. All recreational resources are getting scarce and more expensive.

I have had and loved the AllStays app for years, but have never signed in so didn’t get any notification of the changes.

After being able to see but not look at all the app features for several days, I broke down and subscribed yesterday.

$19.99 a year is still a good price, imo.

updating the app

Hi everyone,

I ran into the splash screen on allstays. I looked for an update and had to manually update on my iPhone and iPad. Look under the app store, purchases and scroll to your allstays. It should have the update showing. My wifes' phone actually showed the update on the little update icon. Once updated, life is good.

I'm guessing the changeover happened at the same time the update went out.

Campgrounds.RVLife.COM

I have used Allstays for a long time but during the last year I have been using
https://campgrounds.rvlife.com more because the reviews are more current and the format is more convenient to use for me. It also features trip planning software which I have used but still prefer my old Microsoft Streets and trips.

Campgrounds.RVLife has gradually become my go to source for finding and selecting campgrounds. It is where I post 95% of my campground reviews.

Campgrounds.RVLife is a product of RVLife, who bring you this forum

I just deleted the app and then reinstalled it on 2 phones and 2 Ipads. All grandfathered in and works fine!

Don’t know if you can backtrack or not. I sent an inquiry, they said to delete and reinstall the app which I did. Below is the statement posted when I went to the reinstalled app.

Thanks, and I will try that.

On edit: that worked, and thanks so much as free is always good. ☺️

Kudos to AllStays for this excellent feature for longtime customers.

Lots of useful comments here. We tried several things to get ours updated but had no success until we went to the app store to update. Thanks to jrwayne for that specific suggestion.

Glad I read your post and the responses. I had deleted the app when it wanted me to agree to $19.99 year. I just reloaded and everything seems good again...

Is anyone else seeing reviews? Everyplace I click on has # stars indicating that people have reviewed it but when I click to read the reviews it tells me “no reviews found. Yours can be the first to help others.”

I checked Seawall Campground in Acadia NP and KOA Holiday Bar Harbor Oceanside among others. Are others able to read reviews at these two campgrounds?

I ended up paying the 19.99. I expect them to up their game a bit. Also they probably upped their price because before it was pretty much in development. They did have some inaccurate information or no information at all. I did report a few times where the information was wrong, and they do correct it. My guess is if people pay they are more apt to report inaccurate information. Right now it is still very helpful, and worth the price.

I se an android, paid for access and found a good number of apps are not available to me. No refund. It would be honest and great it they would issue a warning about lack of android support up front.

It appears you can receive a refund if not satisfied. Send an email within 48 hours.

(OOPS! wasn't able to attach the picture. See the post below for details)

Thanks to all for your posts and research. Yes, if you have bought the $10 plan in the past you will be grandfathered in. Just update the App and there will be that GF message plus you will be back in full time connection. You need not be a part of the new $20 annual fee.

As mentioned in other posts, a solution has been identified - manually update the app, or if needed, delete the app and reload it. Here's a response I received from Allstays indicating a problem with the Apple App Store may have been responsible for the issue.

"If your request concerned the grandfathering and your impossibility to access the app I kindly suggest that you follow these steps

Delete the app from your device

Restart your phone

Reinstall the app

Make sure to log in with the correct account information

These steps have been successful for all users who have encountered the same issue. I am hopeful that following these steps will resolve the issue and you will have access to the app again.

Apple made a change to their receipt certificates which has resulted in a crash of their system, causing an inability for us to verify receipts and identify users as grandfathered. This has been fixed, please follow the steps above to recover your access."

I think it's incredibly nice of them to grandfather previous app subscribers into the new plan. I suspect they'll release a new-new version at some point down the road and we'll all be forced to subscribe, but usually that's the first thing software manufacturers do and there is no grandfathering period during the transition.

I'm glad they are moving to a more sustainable revenue model because hopefully that means they'll be in business longer. I use that app a lot when I travel and plan and it's my first go-to app when looking for RV amenities while on the road for everything from campgrounds to dump and fill stations.
