News is referring to an app called gasbuddy that provides that information you seek. I have zero other information about it, but it appears to be legitimate.

Why is that, because someone might be tracking our ISP location?

BTW is anyone using a VPN for their Internet activity?

Thanks,

GasBuddy is a legitimate website & app. I use it all the time.

I use Dashlane password portal & VPN.

"Significant outages" in SE US

New CNN article just out.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/12/busin...ine/index.html

"As of 12:37 pm ET, 65% of all gas stations in North Carolina, 42% in Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina are without gasoline, according to GasBuddy, an app that tracks fuel demand, prices and outages. All figures are higher than early Wednesday morning."

Thanks Annabelle and Pat for the VPN feedback.

There can be embedded links to scammers that can then gleam personal information, and yes it’s a good idea to use VPN technology along with something like DuckDuck Go or similar, IMO.

Alert: Colonial Pipeline Shutdown

So, I live just south of Miami. All the fuel in this corner of Florida arrives by tanker from places like Aruba, Mexico and Freeport. It is received and stored at Port Everglades in Ft Lauderdale. From there it is delivered by truck from about Palm Beach to Key west.

It is a reliable and resilient system with no connection to the Colonial Pipeline.

Yesterday, i went and bought gas for the boat and no lines, gas and diesel readily available. Got up today for a grocery run and 60% of the stations in my neighborhood have no fuel and the ones that do, have lines stretching blocks.

It is truly mind-boggling how quickly people lose their ability to think rationally and sink into hysterical hoarding mode.

Thanks.

If one uses Firefox [with fairly strict pop-up blockers], DuckDuck Go, and religiously [every 10-15 minutes or so] erases all browser data and history, cleans cache, etc., and reboots the laptop, is this a good step before switching to a VPN? What VPN service do you use?

Thanks,

It's also good evidence for *WHY* the regions supplied by the Colonial pipeline ran dry so quickly. Panic hoarding emptied out the stations around you when the supply chain is still intact.

Per the Secretary of Energy: Colonial Pipeline CEO informed her that they are restarting pipeline operations at approximately 5 PM today.

(I assume that's Eastern time so it may be in process already)

Somebody asked about gas availability in the Carolinas. We had a death in the family last week and our daughter came home for the funeral. She left yesterday morning (Tuesday) heading back home to the Asheville, N.C area. We had gas on Monday afternoon for her to fill up here near our house south of Atlanta (in the burbs). She traveled up I-85 to Greenville, S.C. and filled up again, then on to Asheville. No gas near her home on the north side of Asheville by the time she got home late in the afternoon (Along I-26).

Susan and I were hoping to get away for a few days because for the first time in many, many months we have no responsibilities for a couple weeks. This situation killed that idea for us. Oh well........

Lord, let's hope that's true. One of "The Media" talking heads was blathering on this morning about how they had "never actually shut the pipeline down" and may not be able to bring it back on line. Be nice if "They" ever had a positive report on something, wouldn't it?

Incredible.

Just read a Washington Post article that said the Colonial Pipeline has restarted, and that the process will take several days.

Maggie

Same report we're getting here in Atlanta media.

In other news, the Little Dutch Boy has been notified to be available at a moments notice.

That’s good news - not a moment too soon. My wife showed me mind-boggling photos of people filling 200 gallon totes, trash cans, trash bags (not even in cans!)...
Pumps showing 9.98/gallon...
There’s going to be a lot of wasted gas, fires and explosions, polluted waterways, maxed out credit cards...

I called the park we planned to visit this weekend between Augusta and Atlanta. There are only a couple of stations with gas in their area. The ranger expressed concerns about people being able to get to work.

A columnist named Molly Ivins related the story about a farmwoman who sent her two young sons to gather the eggs. Within five minutes, they were back, scratched and breathless, with no eggs or basket.
“What happened to you two?” she asked.
The younger boy answered, “There was a giant chicken snake in one of the nests!”
She chided them, “You know a chicken snake is not going to hurt you.”
The older son countered, “Yeah, but there are some things that scare you so bad you hurt yourself!”

You can bet the hackers in other countries are taking notes about how easy it is to persuade the Americans to get themselves in a pickle. And, the next ransomware rates are going to be a multiple of what they were before.
