Albuquerque Balloon Fest

How far in advance do you need to make reservations for the October Balloon Fest. As a retired military I tried the Air Force base there but they don't take reservations. They are first come with active duty having priority.

In order to park at the field with the Airstream group (no hookups), you need to get on the list months ahead. I think the list opens in February and can fill up by May. It is full now. You can watch the Rally Calendar on this site for an early post on where the thread is for the current year.

As for getting a spot at Kirtland, they have a large overflow area with no hookups. I've stayed there several times on other business during the Balloon Fiesta dates and always been able to get a spot. The last time was 5 years ago, so I don't know if they have made changes since then.

Dry camping is allowed nearby at the Sandia casino, it's 5 miles to the field, lots of really fun people stay there. No hookups, but their $2 cheeseburgers can't be beat!

We went 2 yrs ago with Good Sam club. Had water, electric. school buses trans from 0600 to 2300 hrs. eliminnated driviing iin that bad traffic.

Just talked to the person in charge of the BF, and it will come out in January 2016, it fills very fast, so keep a watch.

I attended the Fiesta last year. Tried to book RV parking a couple of months before and found the adjacent RV parks were fully booked. However, there's another RV park about 20 minutes walk away, no problem getting in there.

That would be me :-) - yup we generally are full by early March - we think it's the best because we camp right next to the launch site - if you stay off "campus" you miss sooooo much ! AND we sit and watch all those cars waiting in line to get in - our biggest decision in the morning is whether or not to get out of our pajamas!
