Question Airstreams.... Where?!?

So, We are making the journey from Spokane to Texas to pick up our Airstream and bring her home... so far I have lost count of the SOB's but I have only seen two airstreams. Do you guys travel in packs?

Its possible that you are being blinded by the bright reflections from those that are polished.

We're a rare breed -- Easy to pick out of the crowd, though; if and when you see us...

Today I saw 3. An old Vintage (sorry, not real keen on ID'ing the old ones) early 60s...maybe 25 footer pulled by a red Tacoma on I57 northbound, an early 80s 34'er sitting in a driveway close to Newton, IL and a 25'er (I think) headed into Charleston IL. All this on a 230 mile trip.

I see them all the time here in California, almost daily.

We went from Gig Harbor Wa to Glacier, Yellowstone and back and only saw 9 on the road. We did camp with some though in West Yellowstone. There were four others there with us. We saw a ton of SOB's mostly huge motorhomes and bigger 5th wheels.

Camping at Glacier we saw a Freightliner cab and chassis that had a manufactured 45 ft camper built on it with slideouts on both ends. This rig was huge. The graphics were beautiful and lots of chrome. He had a tall enclosed trailer he was towing behind it and I couldn't figure out it's purpose. It had no windows or doors, was about as long as a car hauler only twice as high. The total length of the combo was about 60ft. Who is using these Freightliner cabs and chassis for motorhomes?. The wheelbase was extended beyond what a normal tractor trailer would have been. It dwarfed my AS. Of course my AS looked much nicer, only smaller.

Dan

Y'know, I think we're looking this the wrong way. We wouldn't get nearly as excited if we saw them every time we're running down the road.

I was headed south at ...umm... let's just say slightly extralegal speeds on I-35 in the 'wagon a few months ago and saw an Argosy actually at a campground with awnings out looking like someone was camping in it and remember that brief sighting even now. It was the first time I've seen someone USING an Argosy since we bought ours.

I just thought it was interesting as a new Airstream owner that they seem so rare on the road. I guess after Saturday I'll see one chasing me on a regular basis!

Took a trip from bothell, wa to Indiana, and only saw a handful of AS. Seems the closer to the east coast we got, the more we saw. I don't know what I'd do if there where several AS all at one caravanning. Probably wear out the wife's camera.

I said the same thing in the "Airstream Sightings" thread... I drove from Tampa to NC and back and only saw one.

Meanwhile, I drove home from work the other day (15 miles) and saw one... one that I BELIEVE belongs to a new member of ours here.

They're not called packs. They're caravans. And what's this "you guys" thing? You own one, so it's "us guys" not "you guys".

Seriously, since I bought my Aistream Interstate back in December, with the exception of the WBCCI Mardi Gras Rally and at Airstream dealers, I haven't seen more than two Airstreams in one place, one of which has been mine.

In my part of the world, fifth-wheels predominate, seeming to make up more than 50% of all the RVs I see, both on the road and in campgrounds. Could it be because travel trailers remind people of FEMA trailers?

I don't know about y'all, but I installed a Klingon cloaking device in ours so it can't be seen...

The reason you don't see any AS's on the road is because they are all tucked in people's backyards being worked on!! (Well, mine is anyway)

We're here doing a blind taste test, to see if people who use dilithium crystals prefer the taste of Folgers crystals…

I was referring to " you" as Veterans :-)

I know I have taken a lot of guff from friends for buying an Airstream. " too small" " too expensive" but I have also heard " sure is cool" " always wanted one" 23 foot only weighs 5k? "

We are on the Road with ours heading to the gulf and we have seen only one. Sigh. We love seeing them!

There's 5 that I see every day on my way to and from work! I always want to stop and asks them if they've thought of selling. I'm addicted to these things. I want one of ever size... And probably more after that...

There is a huge old AS RV parked near my place in Toronto... Never seen it move. That is the only AS I can recall seeing for some time now.

Just get it rolling with a floor in it and do what we do, camp anyway! I can't tell you how many times people look at pictures and say "you camped in that?"

Exactly my plan. This week the wheels go back on... And hopefully in about a month it will be ready to roll. No interior yet... But that is ok.
