I'm wondering whether the late-model Classic is truly able to sleep a family of 5. I'm not afraid of longer and heavier trailers but I hate slide-outs. I've looked at floorplans and walked around inside a few trailers at dealerships but am wondering whether someone who's tried it can say a few words about the practicalities of sleeping two people in either the sofa bed or the dinette.

Hey Jammer,
Welcome to the group. As for your question, I suggest you contact a subject matter expert on camping with kids.
I believe PizzaChop and the Mrs. are up to eight children as of 2008 SpringStream. They have a vintage 31'
Sovereign and don't hesitate to hitch up and load for a weekend outing.

Kevin
