Airstreaming with 3 kids

Hi all,

Having recently arrived at a decision to sell the lake cottage that has been in our family for 80 years (typical story, sibling owners are of varying means and not of one mind on appropriate maintenance and usage) we're on the verge of obtaining an Airstream to provide for our vacationing wishes and wants.

I'm wondering whether the late-model Classic is truly able to sleep a family of 5. I'm not afraid of longer and heavier trailers but I hate slide-outs. I've looked at floorplans and walked around inside a few trailers at dealerships but am wondering whether someone who's tried it can say a few words about the practicalities of sleeping two people in either the sofa bed or the dinette.

Hey Jammer,

Welcome to the group. As for your question, I suggest you contact a subject matter expert on camping with kids.

I believe PizzaChop and the Mrs. are up to eight children as of 2008 SpringStream. They have a vintage 31' Sovereign and don't hesitate to hitch up and load for a weekend outing.

Regards,

Kevin

How old are the kids? Depending on their ages, you may find that the older ones do well in small 'quest room' tents. They may think the privacy is cool but can always come inside in bad weather.

Our oldest is 11. We've thought about the auxiliary tent approach and will probably use it but still want to be sure we have the option of keeping everyone inside. Weather is one reason, ease and speed of setup/teardown is another, the fact that there are certain sites where a tent is inappropriate is a third.
