We loved staying at Elkhorn Campground in Frankfort KY. http://elkhorncampground.com/ while enjoying the Bourbon Trail.

We camped at Taylorsville SP to visit the distilleries last month. Very nice campground and reasonably well situated in relation to the distilleries (which are widely spread out) and to Bardstown and Louisville.

Two suggestions: You don’t need to do more than one actual tour, which are pretty pricey and pretty redundant too. Pick one (Makers Mark is good) and then just visit the tasting rooms at the brands you like. And don’t necessarily stick just to the ‘official’ Bourbon Trail; there are others that aren’t part of that.

Second, we really liked the Muhammad Ali museum in Louisville.

Ditto on Bardstown, My old Kentucky home state park. Day trips from there. Bring your sticks if you golf as the course is right there. Make tour and taste reservations well in advance. Rickhouse aromas are amazing.

I'll put in a vote for the Kentucky Horse Park campground. We've stayed there several times. The Horse Park itself is worth a visit. I like the barbque at the Red State restaurant which is within 3 miles of the park on Georgetown road.
I've also eaten at Ramsey's. Really good deserts. I prefer the location at 4391 Harrodsburg Road. Known for their pies and a really good Kentucky Brown (heart attack on a plate!).
