Airstream Factory

Took the Airstream Factory tour today. The addition to the plant and service area is being well utilized. The are building 18 units per day and have a 1,300 backlog of sold units also their service area has a large backlog. They asked if any of us had our resume with us since they are looking for workers. This was my 3 plant tour in the last 30 years. If you get a chance take the tour.

Been there twice, definetly worth the journey.

Just a random thought, too bad they have no work camping opportunities.

We have been to JC four times in the last ten years. We are currently in western New York. We have an appointment at the Service Center on August 4th. We will be sure to take the Factory Tour. We have not taken it in several years.

I have my resume with me and would LOVE to work at the JC factory.. I agree with the other poster about working kamping jobs at JC.. what a great way to see the new units and learn about how they are built..

I bet if JC wanted to get a good handle on QC they would invite owners of the last couple years unit to come and sit down and talk about good bad and ugly on the airstream.. what might need a tweak to make it better with little changes.

But i guess when you have a 1300 unit backlog you don't need to worry about QC as much. but they may do that now just never heard any one say so.

Hoping to see it myself in person some day soon.

Did you see any signs of the new trailers they have been pre-announcing, like the Nest or the new Basecamp?

No I did not, I did ask about the rumors of a new Classic Motorhome, the guide said they were investigating various options.

You may have hit the nail on the head there.

I would like to see the plant someday. Worked in manufacturing all my life up until the last couple.

I was at the factory a few weeks ago. No way I could keep up the pace of that assembly line. Those guys and gals hustle.

A little teaser, a bit outdated in some of the processes but still interesting.

Airstream Factory

If you're having work done, there's no charge to stay there. You have electric, water and sewer but you may need longer sewer hoses than usual.

If you're not having work done there, it's $10/ night.

I forget if tour is 1 or 2 but it's in the afternoon.

On edit - you'll see some new ones on the line - you may get in a few - I was able to get in to a Pendelton in the service bay (hadn't been shipped to a customer yet but was dinged in shipping). I don't think you'll have an opportunity to try them out - but you can certainly ask. If not, I think there's an Ohio dealer no too far from there where you should be able to see a bunch.

We got to go inside a few trailers at the end of the line where they were doing the final systems check and cleaning, but not many. Once the units are cleaned and inspected they lock them up. I saw a ding or two also.

All camping spots are water, sewer, electric. I think there are only 24 spaces, so get there early. When I was there early in June it was full. When I email to try to make a reservation they told me it's first come first served.

Terraport

The Terraport is looking a bit long in the tooth. A few dollars spent on updating the factory camping facility would improve the customer service experience.

Chuck, Someone brought that up with the President of Airstream during one of the Q&A sessions at the International. He responded that was something they were looking at, for what that is worth. Last time I was there they had the water shut off for my first day. It was back on the next.

Just FYI, but Airstream does this, at Alumapalooza they have a Mens and Womens discussion, where they discuss issues, and Airstream does listen. They also did this at the WBCCI Rally in Lewisburg. And several times Airstream says, yes that was a problem and it's fixed on the latest models.

We're heading there on the 10th of next month. Don't know how many times we've been there, but it's always a pleasure. They make us feel at home and the work is done well and is fairly priced.

I tried to use this web link to make a reservation for the 2pm tour.
https://www.airstream.com/company/tours/

They responded back that they did not make individual reservations.

True, no reservations required. Just show up and enjoy.

With only 18 units factory built a day and having 1300 backlog of sold units to build, I guess you will have to expect to pay MSRP at Airstream Dealerships - if any left
on the lot.
