We are new to Airstreaming but not camping.
We just completed our first long trip (2k+ miles).
We really learned a lot and you can bet we we’re deep in the owner’s manuals and re-watching the video of our trailer pick-up orientation.
Now that we’re home I need some advice for cleaning bugs off the stainless steel rock guards, the aluminum body and the window rock guards.
In regard to our first impressions of Airstream camping I would say we both think this was our most comfortable camping trip yet.
As our favorite camping guru (Cliff Jacobson) says:
“The idea isn’t to rough it, you should be trying to smooth it.”

Very normal soap and water is normally the best thing for cleaning of anything on an AS. You may well need a couple of passes. That's better than going crazy with something a bit harsh.
For windows, Windex is an option. I would not get it on any of the metal or rubber parts.
Before the outside, deal with the inside. Really clean the fridge and leave the doors to it ajar. If you don't do that you'll be amazed at what grows in there.

Use any high quality car wash detergent. Nice soft car wash brush on a broom handle. Wash with the grain of the aluminum to minimize scratches that show. Rinse well.
Never use dish soap. If you use a pressure washer (not recommended) be very careful not to blast it to close.
I always try to pick a nice lightly raining morning. Do not have to worry about any product drying before rinse off. I use Turtle Wax brand car wash. It's been around forever. I have an extendable broom style handle, actually it is for paint rollers, and screw on a Boars hair brush. I use 2 buckets. 1 with soapy water and 1 with clear water. Dip in the clear water before dipping in the soapy water. Keeps grit from loading on the brush and scratching AS skin. Rinse well. I use a "Water Sprite" to dry AS. Don't forget to open up the front sunglasses and clean the windows and backside of the sunglasses (window guards). Have at it and be careful on the ladder.
