Advice for the greater Prescott/Sedona AZ area
We will be traveling through this area mid September before heading to the Balloon Fiesta. Looking for recommendations for must-go areas and camping as well.

We camped there in April. There are some nice little campgrounds around Sedona. There are also some large RV resorts out there too if that’s more your style. Make sure you spend a few hours in Jerome, AZ. It’s a very cool town with an interesting history in copper mining. It’s now full of little shops, restaurants, microbreweries, etc. I wouldn’t recommend towing a trailer into Jerome though. It’s tight and has winding roads, and parking is difficult (especially on weekends).

Deadhorse Ranch SP in Cottonwood is a good home base for Sedona, Jerome, Cottonwood exploration. If you're wanting to stay closer to Prescott, Point of Rocks RV park is on a beautiful lake with nice walking trails. The park is a little dusty and not all sites are made equal, but we enjoyed staying there a few weeks. In both cases, reservations are a must.

It's also worth noting that if you're towing from Prescott to Jerome (or the reverse) that you don't want to take 89 A. Go around, you'll thank me. 89 A is two lane, steep, lots of switchbacks, and goes through the narrows of downtown Jerome. I took it by accident and would never route that way again with the 27 FB in tow.

Exactly what I meant in my post above. I can’t imagine how you got a 27-footer through there!

Me either. I clipped a curb in Jerome with just the truck when I wasn’t paying attention.
And Cottonwood is a great staging area for your travels.

Cottonwood has a couple of nice Campgrounds by the creek that offer some shade. LoLo Mai is a rally destination. Phoenix not cooling down for 6 weeks or so.

Rancho Sedona is a very nice RV park, not cheap (nothing in Sedona can be called affordable) but shady, clean and close to downtown restaurants and attractions. It fills early so make reservations soon.

Campendium is your friend. It lists many places to camp near Prescott. Watkins lake particularly interesting because of the rock formations. Point of Rocks is good but there are plenty of options.

Check out Rain Spirit RV Park in Clarkdale. It has great views of the Verde River Valley. One mile from the park is an amazing copper museum in the old high school. Less than 10 miles away is Jerome, a place not to be missed. One mile the other way from the park is Old Town Cottonwood and some really great restaurants. Try LA Crema. You won't be disappointed, or Nick's if you like Italian. Tuzigoot indian ruins very close to the rv park is a great park for a stroll. So much to do in the area including the Verde Canyon Scenic Railroad. Hope you enjoy your stay.

If you can’t get into Point of Rocks RV Resort, I’d try Lynx Lake Campground on the south end of Prescott. It’s run by the forest service. Also, if you can’t get into Dead Horse State Park in Cottonwood, try Distant Drums RV Resort in Camp Verde. It’s a well kept campground and only about a17 mile drive up to Sedona. You can come back via Oak Creek Canyon through Flagstaff and down I 17 which is another beautiful drive in itself.
