Had to re-read this one a couple of times. That's one nickname I'll never use. LOL

"AAA still offers maps as part of membership."
And that's a great source in you want detailed maps of regions or cities.

Maps vs GPS
We use both as our truck has a navigation system installed. My husband likes to plan by using a map, then input the address of our campsite for the day into the GPS. Don't follow the crowd, do what works for you!

Where we're going there aren't any.......where am I?
All good advice here ; ) We use AAA maps of each state.

I just ordered this one, after reading a great review from a fellow Airstreamer. I liked what he said about "stopping to smell the roses"

We ALWAYS rely on paper maps no matter where our travels take us. We use On Star to assist, particularly in cities. We use the maps totally for planning trips. We belong to AAA for that exact reason, free maps.

Road Atlas
We use "The Next Exit" nearly every driving day. Other than that we rely heavily on Allstays Pro App, Loves and Flying J/Pilot Truck Stop Apps, Google Maps. We always check the Passport America website for routing and campgrounds along the way. Beyond interstates and major highways the spiral bound road atlas is nearly useless for us. Using Google Maps you can store maps ahead of time on your phone for times when you have no cell signal.

Maybe a bit off subject but we like iexit app, it tells you what facilities are available at freeway exits. Very useful for fuel needs, restaurants, etc.

If you are insured with State Farm ask your agent for a free Rand McNally road atlas. At least every agent I've dealt with has them.

I love GPS and maps on my iPad/iPhone but paper maps are still necessities. Official state maps are great. The problem with regional or complete US maps is The bigger the area covered the less detail you get. The big area maps are good for some overall planning but don’t show enough detail to actually pick a route.
