He seems to be a nice guy, bought some parts from me off Ebay a couple years ago. He appears to be Japan's Vince Martinico- has a strong desire to collect iconic trailers, and has the extra cash to ship them across the Pacific. Overall, I think collectors (and flippers) like him are good for our hobby- they stimulate interest and increase value. I am assuming, of course, that these are all legitimate purchases from willing sellers, and not part of any international theft ring.

Stolen in Seattle

This is the area of interest I mentioned when West Coast Airstreams started missing.

Wow, some nice rigs out of our reach. As long as they are treated well I guess it spreads the Wally Byam message more emphatically around the world. If people can't take the trailers there themselves to win over other nations at least the trailers are doing it on their own.

Sad though to know that somewhere in there is probably the next Airstream I was looking for - not that the other half of our home equation would be as supportive of more but still.....

I agree somewhat with Melody Ranch - the overseas buyers have no real way to confirm where the trailer originated in terms of did the seller to them actually acquire it legitimately? Oh well, hopefully Homeland Security/Customs are doing their work and finding the ones that are stolen, stuffed in containers, and sold overseas to legitimate buyers.

as someone that has been involved in delivering a trailer to the port of Baltimore, I can tell you that the serial numbers are run through a data base before the dock ticket is stamped for export. I am sure a stolen trailer can be shipped, but not by normal methods.

The third world is filled with vehicles stolen from the USA and, shipped overseas..
I suspect that the same is true for Airstream trailers of unique interest~!
Bob,
The .jp site shows the huge interest in Airstream products overseas.
Thanks for digging it up..
