"We have the technology! We can re-build him!"

Update from wood to aluminum, Add insulation, Update interior.... You're looking at the $ix Million Dollar Scotty or at least Robo Scotty! Ha! Make sure to put the heat coil kit under the floor to keep your toes warm and you will really have a keeper there! LoL! Ed

Hey, to offset the costs, you could print out a bunch of paper "templates" for folks to make their own "Shari's"....

Can you post more pics of the frame?? How does that tongue stay attached to the rest of the trailer? Three welds?

The pics I have right now are kinda hard to see, I took them with low light at the end of the day - so it's hard to see. The frame, as shown in my earlier post, is a combination of wood & metal and it's hard to tell the difference as it was all coated with a sort of RhinoLiner type material.

I will be soda/sand blasting the metal part of the frame and replacing all the wood - I'll get some better pics when I do. Unfortunately, I'm moving my office this weekend - so I won't be able to get much done for a couple of weeks. But yes, the tongue is just welded to the rest of the frame at the three points - much like an Airstream. But the similarities end there.

The floor is only attached with about 8 elevator bolts, through the floor, then a 2x2 then the frame. The rest of it was held together with those aluminum screw-nails (don't know what they're really called - they're nails with groves) & staples. It's amazing they hold together at all ~ We will be using no nails, only screws when we put it back together.

Also, keep in mind, this trailer is <1000 lbs soaking wet. The strength of the tongue/frame is the least of my concerns.

Shari

Now the Market will drop due to the lack of Futures on Ring Shank Nails! Oh well, Guess I can invest in steel frame members and welding supplies! LOL! Waiting to see the next steps..... In photos! Ed

Nope, I don't know much about them - but I did see one for sale awhile back on the TCT Classifieds, it was in Washington - are you the one that bought it? CUTE!!!

There are so many little canned ham brands out there - it's almost like they are regional. You may want to start a new thread with Bellwood in the title - maybe someone will chime in with more information. I'm afraid your inquiry will just get lost here in this thread.

Good luck in finding out more about it - post pictures when you can ~

So I spent the weekend, scraping off undercoating from the frame - then I sandblasted it. It's actually in really great shape - the undercoating did the trick even though it was a bear to remove! This evening, I put my first coat of POR-15 - it looks great! Right now everything else is in piles in our yard - what a mess! But even though it looks like a mess, the piles are somewhat organized.

I also polished up a hubcap just to see if the shine would come back...it did!

#1 Frame after scraping
#2 Yours truly sandblasting (I still am finding sand in my ears!)
#3 Frame after sandblasting
#4 Frame after POR-15
#5 Hubcaps - "as found" on left, hand polished w/Turtle Wax chrome polish on right - not bad!

What are you going to call this? A "top off, bottom off, sides off, running gear off, floor off" restoration?

A heavy "D" check. Complete disassembly and total reconstruction. Awesome!
Shari,
I know you've probably been told this, but your axle has definitely taken a "set"!
Nice work from you, as always and great documentation!

Nothing wrong with that axle. Seriously, nothing is wrong with that axle. The springs do sometimes snap however.

You're right. There is nothing wrong with the axle...or the frame or the springs. This trailer sat more than it traveled, thus the roof rot. The wood portions of the frame actually looked good, no rot, just dirty. The floor looked good too, except for the ugly vinyl - so its getting replaced. The axle has no rubber like a duro-torque, just the springs which upon inspection appear sound. It' staying. It is an easy bolt-on axle that can be replaced anytime if it fails.

Shari

It takes a lot to kill a Scotty axle. They weren't made to be replaced every few years like the Dura torques.

I know there is nothing wrong with it. Just a little attempt at forum humor.
