Working on our 1947 Curtis Wright today and found the writing on the attached image after removing the inner skin. Could this be Wally Byam's hand writing? Just curious.

Any hand writing experts out there?

Why can't I paste from the app in a post?

Kind of irritating. ......

Anyway is do an Internet search on "Wally Byaum's own handwriting" you will early in the results find a Word Press article with a photo of what is supposed to be Wally's handwriting.

On first blush, I say it isn't the same, but I didn't really look at it close, let alone try to differentiate between long hand and printing.

The link I mentioned above stated that Wally ran a line for Curtis Wright after WWII between the time working for Lockheed and running Airstream.

Yes. During the war, Wally closed up the Airstream shop and went to work for Curtis Wright. Once the war was over and metal was available again, Wally stayed on at CW for a bit making trailers, then started Airstream back up again. Owners of trailers made during Wally's stint at Curtis Wright are the only non-Airstreams allowed to be official WBCCI / VAC members.

Check out this blurb on the TCT website for some additional info.

We have a Curtis Wright - Model 2 waiting for restoration and future VAC rallies ~

Thanks for the insights. I will have to continue my research to confirm my hunch regarding those hand writing.

Just a shop man

I think it was written by a Shop worker. My Curtis had lots of similar, if not the same writing. It looked like it was put on with a black wax crayon marker. Mine had reference to each panel being for the "Clipper." I left all the markings in place for the next rebuild in 100 years from now.
