My wife and I have just received the title to a 1964 Streamline Countess, and we're trying to get it ready to move. Today I pulled one of the hubs and found that the axle has flat spots where the wheel bearings ride, so we'll be needing some new axles.
Any recommendations about what weight rating of tandem axles I should get or a reputable online supplier? The axles seem to be about 2-5/8" in diameter if that reveals anything.
Here is the info from my thread. (1965 silver streak model 24) I believe they were 3500lb. I had about 800.00 total to replace
Axles were purchased from Six Robbles in Portland OR. I believe they are in California as well. When you remove your old axles measure brake drum hub to hub. Take this measurement to them and they will set you up. My old axles measured 78". They only had 79". My new wheels had a 1/2" off set so I am now back to 78" . Seems to be plenty of room in the wheel wells. PS don't go off my measurement as there seems to be more than one size axles used on our SS.
Thanks TO for the info! I've been hoping that they're 3500 pound axles, but I've seen reports about other Countess trailers that they may be 6000 pound axles. I guess I should get in touch with an axle supplier to see if I can measure the hubs, bearings, etc to make a good guesstimate of their rating.
If I learn more about them, I'll post the info here.
