Very interesting thread you started Jurjen! The Eagle was one of those vehcles that was ahead of it's time - I am gald to see you're keeping one the road.

If that ad photo is the inspiration for your next caravan setup, I hope you are successful!

Keep us posted and, when you get the Eagle/Airstream rig on the road, please post a picture in front of the Kinderdijk!

AMC Eagle towing Airstream

I suspect, but haven't been able to find photographic proof that the coach being "towed" by the Eagle is a 1980 Caravelle 22'. My theory is based upon the presumption that the 1980 Caravelles were based upon the 1977-79 Argosy Minuets whose production ceased in 1979. My notes indicate that the coaches had the narrow body of the Minuets and virtually identical floorplans (which the window arrangement on the coach in question seems to point toward). The photo that I have attached below is one of the 1977 6.7 Metre Argosy Minuet and was posted by Forums member Loudruff --

While not exactly identical in window arrangement I sense some similarity, and AMC products were often used in advertising the Minuet products such as the AMC Pacer with the 6.0 Metre Minuet in the scan below:

I have been able to locate photos of the 20' and 14' Caravelles, but not any of the 22' Caravelle.

Neato!

Good job Jurjen for seeking these answers! I too think it's very cool to get this rig back on the road. The AMC Eagle was ahead of its time and inspired a number of current vehicles including my baby, an Audi allroad which I'm convinced will be my tow vehicle. Good luck to you and keep us posted!

I like the picture with the AMC Pacer very much!
I found a nice link showing the Caravelle:
Fred's Airstream Archives - 1980 Trailer Models
Could well be that this trailer was used for the ad.
