Airstream vs. Silver Streak?

Is an Silver Streak as pricy as the Airstreams?

No, without Wally's marketing skills the SS didn't hold the value like Airstreams. Silver streaks, say- a 23 foot model, go for anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000, in restore able shape. Meaning they need some work. IT depends on the part of the country they are located in too. Usually cheaper up north. They are very nicely built trailer though and well worth restoring, at least for your own use. Not as great for resale.

Not as much demand for Silver Streaks, Streamlines and Avions and other kin. So their prices have been lower. Not as many around either. Lately though I have seen higher prices on Ebay.

Not at all. Nicely-built, beautiful trailers.

There is a 30-something-footer for sale in the Indianapolis area. It is in very good condition, last listed for $10K. I sent a note to the guy on Monday and he said it was still available. (I posted a thread earlier in this Vintage Kin section about the trailer.) I really wish I could get that trailer, but since I can't, I'm hoping someone here will get it and keep it in good shape.

Well shoot. On this site some of the threads start new and get older some start old and get newer. I glanced at the 2006 date and read it 2016. Cut me some slack, I'm old. Still the information is as relevant today as it was 10 years ago, and as you can see here, there are still new people looking at the posts. OF course you are right, I should read things closer.

You never know...... The added info just might come in handy for others in the future who will be searching the forum.

And since it's already been bumped - let me add that Avions somehow have recently gotten hotter. There's one that has been stored for years at a local campground. (Not good to store in the open in Jungle East Virginia!) I asked the campground to pass a note to the owner for three years and got no response - then sister found one in Ohio in decent shape and I got it for a decent price. Now that the reno is done and she's waiting for me the owner of the stored one finally called me - and wants $20K. I'd looked one last time at this one before going to Ohio and seen that water incursion was reaching notable proportions. I wouldn't give $5K for it if I were still in the market - and I would have paid double that 3-4 years ago before it started to leak seriously.

I haven't counted but I'd bet there are 40 units at that one campground that have sat vacant for over 5 years. If they've each lost $15K in value it's a total of $600K. That's a BIG lesson in "use it or SELL it or LOSE it!"

I agree. I spent 3 years looking to buy an Argosy/Airstream/Avion (bought an Avion last year), so I'm somewhat familiar with vintage trailer pricing. Recently, there has been a sharp increase in Avion trailer prices. Most Avions I saw were in $3-$6k range. Now there are multiple $15k Avions for sale on Avion's Facebook page.

As for SS, I have never seen one in person (saw one in a Jurasic Park Movie!). I have heard they are top quality and even better than Avions (if true, its incredible). I am not a big fan of their looks though, but this of course is a subjective matter.

I bought a 67 silver Streak 23' Sabre last July 4th. I had to pay $4,000 for it down here in the south. I'm in Houston. I bought the trailer in OK city. I found them way up north for around $1,100 but then there was another $2,500 in travel expenses going both ways.Mine had a nice straight body but the interior was falling apart from heat. Veneer coming off a lot of the plywood. People don't realize just how destructive storing these things outside in the blazing sun for years is. Forget the water. I think mine has been in west Texas for years. Floor was rotten and had to be replaced first. I'm just finishing that now. Like most old Airstreams the interior needs to be brought into the present century. I'm a furniture maker by trade and my co owner son is an architect. So we plan to have some fun with it and do it up right. Pictures at WWW.Silverlodger.com
I'll say too that I was not a real fan of the looks of the SS, but it's grown on me.
See, this was just a dead stream, now it has lots of stuff going on. thanks to my careless reading.

Bought a 76 Supreme Luxury Liner in April 22. Paid $8000 for it. It was decent. May have paid a little more than I should have but still happy with it. I've been slowly getting it livable again. Getting close to having the big stuff finished. The floor being the last big part of it. I have the tile, now I just need to finish the floor prep and lay it. Time is hard to come by sometimes.
