I can see you put new aluminun on the front. Where do you buy your aluminum? I put the old piece I removed from the back end of my belly pan when I replaced the black tank. I had to do a patch job because it was so disintegrated. It is a temporary fix. I went to the sheet metal store and they did not have the correct thickness and they wanted a bunch of money for a piece that would not fit.

I get it from 2024 T3 Alclad Aluminum Coil and sheet, rolled aircraft aluminum
Ordered a 6' piece, the can ship UPS, so the shipping cost was not bad. I have enough to make a new wheel well skirt, I am missing one.

They are very nice to deal with, I received my order in 4 days!

It is 2024 so it will polish up pretty good as well.

Going for the Full Montie!

I decided to bite the bullet. After climbing under to do a Frame bolt inspection, Finding 6 missing, snapped off and the first one I put a wrench on snapped off in my hand, we decided to go all the way!

Despite the power outage this weekend, I got all the accessible bolts off, street side Banana wrap removed and a plan to lift the body free of the frame. We are on the way to rolling it off and putting new 3/4 plywood on.

This otta be fun!

Doing it right the first time is indeed costly, huh? The alternative of course, is more so.

Eric was able to locate me a Dixie Stove, who knows, you may have luck with him?

The cold is not so bad, limits the time you can work, which is not a bad thing at times. I get to pick away at it, shearing rivets is fun for an hour or so
I'll be posting pics and a new web page when I have power restored!

I found a fairly easy way to lift the body. Back bolts removed, front bolts still in place to keep it from sliding. From the inside, with a hydraulic jack and some blocking (check out the photo) I can lift up on the roof frame and tip one end of the body off enough to slide in the plywood. The bolts that hold the body on will either need to be cut flush or a clearance hole will have to be drilled.

I just saw an 1950's something spartan royal mansion sitting in a scrap metal yard. . Man I wish I had the money because I would buy it. I heard the owner of the yard wants 1000 dollars for the trailer, but the birch is in really bad shape. Maybe someday.

Yours is looking like it is coming along nicely.

The price of scrap aluminum is way down. Friend of mine junked an aluminum delivery truck body 2 weeks ago and only got $68 for the aluminum. A year or 2 ago it would have been over $300.

Try offering the guy a couple hundred $$$ bucks, what have you got to lose?

Five of the 6 sheets of flooring are in, 3/8" Marine Plywood. Need to re-attach the rear and remove the front bolting to get the last piece in.

To allow the body rail to realign, I drilled holes for "dummy" pins. The whole floor is now in place! I upgraded the original 1/4 - 20 carbon steel bolts with 5/16 - 18 high grade Stainless Steel.

We are in the process of looking for flooring now. I'd like to go with Vinyl self sticking squares. Maybe Red and White, but we are not finding them at a reasonable price..

I have been following your work and it looks like you are moving along at a good pace. I checked out a very long mid 50's royal mansion today. The interior was in really bad shape but the outside looked great. It is sitting near a scrap yard. I would love to own it, but I think I will just follow the great job you are doing.
