65 overlander questions

hello I just purchased my first Airstream and have some questions about identification. the Airstream is painted and the guy swears its original paint, I know, sounds weird! on the plate it says "Airstream, international land yacht, plate number J 1265271 Jackson center Ohio. Overlander" paint is gold on top and brown on bottom. does anyone have any information for me? The previous owner also made a commit about the logo witch is a biker pulling the Airstream, and he also said that a guy from the airstream museum told him that it was a very rare model. again all could be BS but I wanted to provide all information I have. thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum.

J 1265271 would likely be an Ohio built International trim package Overlander

J = Jackson Ohio
1 is sometimes interchanged with I (International trim pkg)
26 = 26 feet (overlander size)
5 = double bed layout
271 - build number

Not really sure about the 'rare' bit but we'd love to see some pics.

You can read more about this model here: http://vintageairstream.com/photo-ar...overlander-26/

I replied to your other post on the same topic. I doubt the story, but cannot prove it is not true, though I have NEVER seen a factory painted Airstream from the mid 1960s, especially not gold over brown.

The Airstream logo featuring a guy on a bicycle pulling an Airstream was used on Airstreams for several years, I believe up thru 1965. That logo definitely did not appear on 1966 models, though Airstream still does sometimes use it for advertising purposes to this day.
