1970 Silver Streak interior aluminum cabinets

i just bought a 1970 Silverstreak Duke 25' trailer and I'm going to gut it. This is the brand that has aluminum cabinets.
I'm wondering if you guys think it's worth removing the cabinets carefully so I can sell them. I'm planning to gut mine and keep the entire space open for my office.
I wonder if there is a market for these kind of things?

Thanks.

Why don't you buy a trailer that is already ruined for normal use? Plenty of candidates out there.

My opinion is, they are not making them anymore. If you have a place to store them, save everything. It takes the same amount of time to carefully remove them as it does to tear them out.

How many 1970 SS Dukes which need replacement cabinets are out there. What I am saying is what chances are there for selling them or finding a new home for them. I too hate to see things which are not easily replaced tossed out, but how long can you search for a home for them.

I have a very rare Sony projection Television which I would love to find a home for, and it has been cluttering up my storage shed for several years. It is very large. It would make a good addition to a museum on television receiver evolution, but I can't find a home for it. It may become trash, which makes me sad, but at some point it has to go from my shed.

The historian/museum lover/packrat in me says all good stuff should be saved, but it just is impossible to reuse everything.

I fight this battle often...I have not yet run out of room for hoarding though.

I think someone will want those cabinets.
You could sell them on the classifeds.

I'm in the "wish I had more storage space" group. That being said, I am in the process of rebuilding a 1947 Spartan that is gutted. I have looked at installing currently available aluminum cabinets but cost is prohibitive. Given that the Silver Streaks and Spartans don't have as dramatic curved sidewallsand end caps these might be an option. I suspect the shipping cost from California to Texas would exceed their value but just saying their is somebody that can use them.

Given the slow progress I'm making on getting the Spartan campable I have thought about selling it as a food trailer/office opportunity. It's 25ft, new front windows, new axle and new subfloor- open canvas ready to configure.

Feeding off of slowmover's comment, this one is already ruined - althought it was time and shoddy restoration attemps that "ruined" it. Shell and frame (now) are tough as nails.

Good luck on your project.

A Duke is a Streamline. Different brand. Moderator can help change thread title. Silver Streak only built wood cabinetry.

Good luck.

Yes, there is a market to sell them -- I'm interested. Just need to see the layout and if they would function for me. Like Bluestar99 said, "remove" or "tear out," takes about the same amount of time.

Silverstreak Swapper:

Please send me a picture of them, I will research value for you. I may have a buyer who would like to buy them and add new tops, as their vintage office furniture - they have a big office! joehamer2020@gmail.com

The Duke was made by Streamline. I owned a Duchess 23'. I believe your Duke would be 25'. I had mine for 21 years and it was a great trailer. Very light due to the aluminum cabinets and partitions, 3600# GCVW. Mine also had a tag axle without brakes. I added brakes on the tag axle and changed out the front brakes that were bands rather than shoes. They were electric. Only had one exterior leak, but the air pressure water tank gave me fits. I finally had a stainless steel one fabricated after the non marine plywood floor gave up. I did a shell on floor job. SilverStreak made the end caps for Streamline. They just added the luggage trunk to the SilverStreak rear caps. I paid $6,000 for it new.

Hey Guys,

Thank you so much for all the feedback. Actually I did double check and got confused because I was looking at so many models. It is actually a:
1970 Streamline Duke
This is part of what the ad said:
"In the brochure page showing layout it is the 25 ft Duke length with the general floor plan of the 23 ft Duchess"

Original wheels were steel painted gold with moon style covers. A nice final touch, if you like. Really says Streamline, proudly.

Good luck.

Given how many trailers there are out there with trashed, gutted interiors I would hope you would reconsider and sell that one and use one that is already gutted for your office. I bet you could sell that for more than one that is already gutted. I would be interested in buying it if you would sell it, I really hate to see a nice, original trailer gutted.

But if you do gut it please let us Streamline owners know. There is definitely a market for good used cabinets, doors, latches, interior parts, etc.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
I actually gutted the interior. I had a guy contact me and he was able to take some of it, the rest, unfortunately, I had to get rid off. At least some of it went to a good home, which made me feel good about it.
These trailers are beautiful. It's a shame some people let them get in the condition they end up sometimes.
Thanks again for all your replies.
