I picked up the screen frames the other day and started working on them. On the back side of the frames is a lip that is .125 high. If the mounting hardware is tightened to tight it deforms the frames quite a bit. I made a bunch of .125 spacer blocks and am in the process of riveting them on. Click image for larger version

Good idea. I guess I tolerated that little bit of deformation and for some reason my screen frames were attached with sheet metal screws. But your Globetrotter is built to aircraft standards.

I will be using the top 3 fastener locations on the screen frames for window shade mounts. I will bend them up when my wife tells me which style and type I want to install

I have no sheet metal screws installed on the trailer.

window shades

Have you ever thought about building shade guides on each side of the window that would fill the curve gap, so there is complete privacy? I have been thinking about fabricating curved guides that would mount to the wall and provide a curved channel that the shade would follow to the bottom of the window. I would add a topper that I could attach a curtain rod to.

the shrinker/stretcher might be helpful here

Thoughts?

I have been using aluminum magnets sewn into the edges of our fabric curtains. They are a little expensive, but are very handy to get a nice tight fit to the window frame.

Are the aluminum magnets manufactured from Unobtainium?

I just made side curtains for our windows that are fastened at the bottom to hold the blinds against the windows and cover the sides of the blinds. Works for us. Down side is that after 12 years they're starting to bleach out. I may need to make new ones....
And apparently there is such a thing as aluminum magnets.... the unobtanium would be the money to buy them!

That's a good idea but I don't think a shrinker stretcher would be needed, just three pieces of aluminum with the center piece narrower for the shade to slide down. It would be a lot of work but doable.

I'll have to check stock at McMaster Carr, do you have a part number?

Airstream made a molded plastic shade guide and position holder for the galley window back in the mid seventies. It solved the curve window problem, but was a rather clunky looking thing. I bet it was an idea from the same department who had the oven in the wall idea. I left it off in my renovation.

Unobtainium. I saved some from the days when I worked at Area 51. There was quite a bit of it in the structure of that flying saucer that we brought in from Roswell for testing.

Router sled is complete, I have an entire American Elm that has been slabbed into 6 quarter. I plan on having live edge countertop and dinette table. More to come on this so don't slam me on wood movement and weight. Click image for larger version

Wow! That is the best router sled I have ever seen! I'm thinking you made it rather than bought it?

Can I have it after you've flattened your slabs? But then, I'd have to build another addition to my workshop...

Well I have been busy the last few weeks in between rain and snow storms. I installed permanent stabilizers which required me to remove a portion of the belly pans. I wanted to install them using 1/4 x 28 aircraft hardware into nutplates and that went smoothly. I also insulated the floors on the forward portion of the trailer. With the installation of the forward stabilizers I had to space the spare tire carrier forward an inch. While I had everything removed up front I installed the fresh water tank using the aluminum platform I made several years ago. I installed nutplates on it too. Lastly I designed and installed a different type of awning safety, I didn't really like the one supplied with the awning. Click image for larger version

I need a support pan for my new gray tank in the '77 Safari. I may have to visit and have a chat.

BTW, we had our awning unfurl completely out in Kansas when the crosswind was 40 kts. But the hold downs never came loose. When we stopped, the fabric mostly rolled itself back into the shroud. We managed to keep it tucked in with 200 yards of duct tape...

I just bought the aluminum to make my grey tank pans. I going to use .063 6061-T6. But hold on to your wallet, aluminum prices have gone through the roof.
