Thanks Aerowood: My stuff looks okay from ten feet. But I do enjoy working with my hands and figuring out how to best do something. Vintage Airstreams are my retirement hobby. A guy has to have something to do.

Okay, we will have to plan a Aerowood Rally some day soon.

No pics today but a couple of my buddies came over and we removed the Air Conditioner and installed the condensation drain cups. This morning I installed the drain line. I used 1/2" irrigation polyurethane pipe. I also installed two of the front panels.

Last aft panels made and fitted. Waiting for more AC wiring to arrive Thursday before I can install for good. Small panel on center aft panel is to access the rear external lights terminal block. Going to go pick up more sheet stock tomorrow. Hopefully this will be my last aluminum sheet run.

Question here; How far is the galley overhead cabinet above a standard 70's side window, and how far does the cabinet extend out from the interior skin?

Hello Aerowood: I'll beat Zep with an answer to your questions; maybe.

69 Globetrotter
(Top 2 photos)
Height above window frame: 3 1/4"
Projection of bottom of overhead: 17 1/2"
from interior skin

75 Overlander
(bottom 2 photos)
Height above window frame: 4"
Projection of bottom of overhead: 16"
from interior skin

I think these dimensions can be anything you want them to be. We all have bonked our noggins on the overhead while doing dishes. I made the countertop in the 69 Globetrotter about 3" more in depth from skins to aisle as I wanted more counter space and less chance of bumping the head. I'm a slow learner. Narrower aisle width was less important to me, but I'm not a big person, more of a skinny runt.

Both overheads have a angled front face so the door, or the tambour is at about a 10 degree incline. Maybe again to reduce head bonking, or maybe just more of a spacious design. I can't remember the angle exactly but I could measure it for you.

I used an aluminum angle to rest the floor of the overhead cabinet on, and I riveted the top of the door frame to the ceiling skins.

I hope you remember what all that wire is supposed to do. You don't want to switch a light on and have a fan start running. : )

I did mark it all......but????

Round wire is AC, flat wire is DC. I still need to figure the amp ratings for everything.

Chris used 9 different colors of wire so he knows which wire is on which circuit.... We spent a considerable amount of time looking for all the different color wires to use! And I thought he was nuts! But it did help when he added an extra light....

I used some aviation wire but most of it is marine wire. No choice on colors.
On another note, all of my DC grounds will be returned to a common ground bus, no component grounds on the Airstream aluminum frames.

Chris says permanent markers come in many colors so you can have fun coloring all your wires!

Changing gears a little. We have to have a custom mattress made. In order to make a template I've decided to just go ahead and make the bed platform. To make the platform I need a couple of walls. So, to install walls I need to attach them to something. Short story long, I am making the angles to screw the walls to. Nothing like shrinking a piece of extruded aluminum angle that is 9 feet long. I'm a Little bit over halfway. Click image for larger version

shrinker

what are your limits as far as channel width and metal gauge? My HF shrinker really struggles past .032. plus it leaves jaw marks

can you shrink a "C" channel, or just "L" channel?

I'm using 1X1 .063 6063 angle. It does leave jaw marks but I just sand them out followed up with a blue surface conditioning disc. Channel is almost impossible. I'm not sure what brand my shrinker and stretcher are but they are not HF. There are much better units available which do not damage the metal surface as much, but they cost a lot more. Pneumatic and foot operated units are very nice to use too.

I bet your high end shrinker would work on my belly. Shall we give it a try?
