Ok, I'll try one. It's a historical site. The second picture is a clue.

Aage, you are correct. This was launchpad 34 where the Apollo 1 fire occurred.

Masseyfarm is correct. The picture was taken from the rear deck of the Lodge at Lake Quinault in the Olympic Rain Forest.

Many people that frequent airforums have been here and their reports on this location lead me to it.

#75 was identified as Great Salt Lake., but to be more specific it looks like Bonneville Salt Flats from the interstate

You get extra bragging rights for pinpointing that. I should have been more specific on the location but sometimes when you are into a long trip, these locations tend to become a mixed memory. Thank #$% for cameras and the permanence of photography. ( I would think the flats were part of the Lake at one time?)

The top picture in #75 must have been taken along the side of the service road that runs out to the start of the actual Bonneville Speedway area of the Salt Flats. You are looking north-northeast at Silver Island, which runs southwest to northeast for about thirty miles outside of Wendover. That low, dark island just to the right of center is Floating Island, about twenty miles distant from the camera. The 1846 Donner Party trail across the Salt Flats runs west just to the north of Floating Island, then crosses a low pass at the north end of Silver Island and continues another ten miles to springs on the east flank of Pilot Peak. John C. Fremont also crossed the same route in 1845, on his way to Sutter's Fort near Sacramento.

The salt flats are indeed the floor of Pleistocene Lake Bonneville, extant at one level or another until about 10,000 years ago, and whose remnant is today's Great Salt Lake. Lake Bonneville's highest bench rises about 1,000 feet above the Salt Flats (and Salt Lake City); at that level it covered all of northwestern Utah, being nearly as large as Lake Michigan.

Lumatic, is it the Pendejo cave between Sacramento and Guadalupe Mountains? I say this because of the small opening.

No, closer to your neck of the woods Dirge. There are a bunch of caves in the area. The largest is named after a large primate. This cave was formed when a fallen log formed a mold.

We have some caves in the area, one well known is Bat Cave. The one you showed in your last post reminds me of a lava tube. And of course we have our share of volcanoes in this area. The most recently active was Mt. St. Helens, and then there is Rainer too.

Yes it is a lava tube cave. Here's a shot of the mountain.

Well it's obviously Mt St Helens. The cave named after a large primate is Ape Cave. It is named that because pioneer miners said that sasquatches lived in it. I have no idea what the name is of the cave in the original picture.

Everyone should get to know this landmark as it has left 10 campgrounds with 310 free campsites in it's wake. Hold curser over picture for a clue.

Obviously. The photo in the original post on the right is my grandkids in Ape Cave. Here's a few more shots from the area.
