November 2023 Photo Challenge

Thanks to Mount’n Man for selecting the theme for October and Steve for assisting in the selection of my photo as the winner for October. I’m humbled. Now comes the hard part.

November is the month of Thanksgiving. With that as a background, it reminded me how thankful I am for my travel partner for camping adventures. For this month, post up pictures of your camping partner / buddy and pictures of camping activities the two of you share. In addition, add a note as to why you are thankful for your partner. The Airstream does not have to be in the picture. The winner will be judged on the story as well as the picture. You may want to get permission to post any pictures of your camping buddy ahead of time to make sure they stay your camping buddy!

I also understand your camping buddy may have 4 legs instead of 2 so pictures of pets qualify as well. We have a short month so let’s get started.

My camping buddy is my wife of 42 years and best friend for 44, Karin. I’m thankful first of all that she likes to camp and explore new adventures. She shares in the driving, has a great sense of direction and can find a campsite for us at the last minute. I don’t trust anyone but her with a walkie talkie in their hand to assist me into backing into a camp spot. We enjoy hiking, biking, campfires and happy hour and the end of the day. She’s happy to just pick up and go at the spur of the moment with no reservation or go with full blown reservations. It doesn’t matter as long as we go somewhere. She’s the mother of our 2 children and we have 2 grandchildren we hope to get into the adventures of camping.

Jim

Ditto Jim's post. Mine is my wife, Debbie, who can really pack a camper so nothing moves, navigate me better than google (I have a poor sense of direction), and share the towing. We bought our 2006 Safari in 2017 for our 30th anniversary. It is our first travel trailer and we love it. Especially useful during COVID. We always had our home away from home right behind us when we travelled.

What a sweet topic. These arent going to win any awards for photog skills, but here goes…
My camping buddy is my DH Ed. We used to travel. Til anxieties took over. I bought the AS last year thinking it would be therapeutic… A comfortable, safe way to get out again. I think its working. A little. Lol. Its a long road!! But we are doing it together and it has certainly brought us closer. Our BRN are an homage to our mothers born 1944 and 1957. Mine had severe anxiety disorder and has sent signs of support from the great beyond. Guess you can say they are our camping buddies too!

These last two posts are exactly what I was looking for with this months challenge. The pictures are good but the story brings the pictures to life and provide context.

Thanksgiving is close - keep them coming!

I have a winner to announce!

Bearstrream01 won me over with her picture and story this month for a number of reasons.

I was told on November 11th that I was the winner of the October Challenge. One week prior to that, my 90-year-old Mom was in a pedestrian accident where she was hit by a car going at least 45 mph in front of her home. She is stable but has a long road to recovery.

That made me realize that life can change in an instant and we don’t always let the ones we love know how we feel about them. That was the background for me choosing this theme for the month and thanking my wife for all she does when we travel and providing some homage to my mom.

The BRN’s in the picture were an homage to their mothers which tied into my thoughts for my mom. My Mom loves to travel and my dad always wanted to stay at home. When he retired, he had anxiety and depression. My Mom talked him into getting an RV as my wife and I had one and loved to travel by RV. My Dad agreed to the idea and it became some of the best therapy for him and the beginning of many happy times and new friends for them. This appeared to be a similar path for Bearstream01.

Of course, we have never met, however it's like she read my mind for why I chose this theme for November.

Bearstream01 will be posting the theme for December shortly. A happy holiday season to everyone!

Jim
