May 2020 Photo Contest

Thank You to Native143 for selecting my photo as the winner of the April contest!
And I win the honor of choosing, and hosting the new May photo contest.

I have decided that the theme shall be “LETS EAT’

Seems like all of the Rally’s, Caravans and Campouts we attend all have one thing in common, FOOD.
From the smell of bacon and eggs in the morning to the burnt marshmallows at the evening campfire everything just tastes better when you are camping.

This month we are looking for pictures of anything food related from your hot dog on a stick to a romantic candlelight dinner for two in the Airstream.
Fire up the grill and let’s get cooking.
Jim

Every October we have a Spam and Eggs campout in Manhattan Kansas with our Airstream friends.
Several years ago we decided to have one last campout of the year. One morning I made Spam and eggs for breakfast. The next year someone started calling it the Spam and Eggs campout and everyone brought a potluck that must include Spam. Door prizes donated by Hormel was awarded to the 20 Airstream trailers attending last year.

Pictures from the Luau Rally we hosted in 2009. We had a SPAM cooking contest with over 2 dozen entries. The prize (Bobble Spam) was donated by the good folks at Spam.

A great theme for this month!

Please recall that the "Snack Attack" and "Real Hot Dogs Recipe" threads have some interesting discussions of Spam and other assorted gourmet foods:

I make a pretty good Spam Musubi. I have the rice press now but I used to do them by hand. I usually make a batch before we leave for camping.

Do you fry/grill the Spam first?

How about a good ‘ol shrimp and crab boil? Of course when some one is munchin’ all the legs, he’s gonna get the stank eye.

We're in Topeka, KS. Would love to know when /where the group is going to meet next. We enjoy Spam (the edible kind) too.

Double stack grill rotisserie

I welded 3 #10 cans together wrapped them in foil to tie on the baby back ribs and the corn was an after thought as time came closer to unleash the family on the meal. We noticed many people walking by with plates......just kidding, but we did have a lot stares and questions.

I fry it and just after I flip them in the skillet. I add sweet soy sauce or teriyaki. Pressed sushi rice on both sides and wrap in Nori. It's like a delicious Spam sandwich, and they travel well in my backpack also.

Doesn't the rib spit/shaft rotate? Looks like a motor on the left end IMO.

Low and slow......slow cooking on low heat keeps from having to flip them over.

Yes. The spit is attached to a rotisserie motor. The cans are welded together and slide over the spit and are secured with the rotisserie forks. It comes off to do solid meats or whole poultry. The spit is made out of rebar and washers and holders are made of smooth straight bar. The most expensive thing used was the new spoil of MIG wire.
