January 2023 Photo Contest
Airstreaming under the heavens
With the long nights in January (or in July if you’re down under), we often see our Airstream under the Moon, a bright planet, or the stars. With the little cameras that many people now have in their phones, it is easier than ever to take photos in very dim light — even hand-held, without a tripod.
Besides the Moon, planets, and stars, our Sun also qualifies as part of the heavens. So the theme of the January 2023 photo contest is an Airstream with any other heavenly object.
Here are a few examples. Keep looking up!

OK I'm going out on a limb on heavenly object definition but here goes! I was in the last day of 7 days of camping in the rain at the beach on Jan 2 when suddenly, the sun broke out just before sunset! A light shower was still falling so I jumped out and snapped these. I ran out so quick the dog jumped up on the dinette to see what all the fuss was about. - Brad

i just looked through ALL of my pictures, and not a single one includes some heavenly body AND the Airstream. Thinking maybe I need to try to capture something like this on my forthcoming winter trip.
This is not an entry in the contest, but Sunset View Campground sure does excel at, well, a heavenly body, albeit a difficult shot to get with the Airstream in view. (And I don't plan to be back there again until the "Just Campin' Rally" in May!)

Great theme, but does a plain old sunset qualify as a "heavenly object" if the sun is not visible as the sun? [emphasis added]
And what about a rainbow? Is that a "heavenly object?"
If sunsets and rainbows are fair game here . . . hmmm?
Thanks,
Peter

I guess my sunset pics and my cloud pic would not really be heavenly objects or celestial bodies/objects. I do have a heavenly body pic taken with my iPhone 7 through a birding scope in 2019. I have not been able to locate our AS Safari on the photo yet 🤷
And a setting sun

I would guess that JSCorbin gets to decide which photos will qualify as heavenly. Not really sure where "heaven" starts even though I'd like to imagine I can get there some day. I sure do like the sunrise/sunset photos though.

I suspect that heavenly bodies simply refers to big round things that slowly move about in the distant sky: Planets, big stars, moons, the sun. Pretty much what the ancients thought. I'd probably stretch it to include what we now understand to be galaxies.
But it is up to JSCorbin. It is good, by the way, to have a somewhat flexible category so that, when it comes time to judge entries, the judge can have some disgression.

Yes, in the examples, I included a sunset glowing through some clouds. To be honest, I didn’t think about rainbows, but they are directly related to the Sun. As are sun dogs. A good ring around the Moon would also be nice. Or a meteor, an aurora, the Milky Way, or even a time exposure of the International Space Station (plus the requisite Airstream).
We should draw the line at an airplane or a frisbee, however. They aren’t heavenly enough.

Well, I guess my first pic failed, by definition, but at least my second has stars and possibly a planet or two…,
