January 2022 photo contest

Thank you steinVT for selecting my photo for December! It was quite an honor and we are thrilled and humbled. We had to do a total shell off renovation because the interior of our abandoned/found Overlander was too damaged/infested to reuse, plus it had a tight floor plan.

So……we re-made it to suit ourselves. We had rough mill finish interior skins left after the Zolatone was stripped. Loving the CD satin look and failing miserably on trying to get it right, I took a rotary sander and sanding discs from a box store and went to town putting circles on every bit of exposed aluminum skins before they were sealed and reinstalled. This, I feel, was the singular item that definitively made our Overlander “uniquely ours.”

So……there is the subject for the January 2022 photo contest.

What have you added to/changed on your Airstream to make it uniquely yours? A decor item or items? Paint? Tile? Design element? What sets it apart from the rest.

Christy, congrats on winning the December contest. Love the ceiling look - that’s a lot of work!

I’ll start off January with a whimsical entry. We named our trailer “Olaf” after the snowman in Frozen. Of course our TV’s name is Sven. Our son made us a custom sign for the rear window. That makes it special to us

It looks like this was created in the wrong part of Airforums. The photo contest is usually in Airstream Lifestyles section.

Thank you! I’m quite a rookie at this posting stuff! I will figure out a way to get it over to Lifestyles.

We have applied “Marie” in German Gothic black letters to the outside next to the door; it references the Airstream featured numerous times in my family’s all-time favorite TV series “Grimm”. It was owned by character Aunt Marie.

This is our newly-recommissioned Marie after extensive frame repairs and other maintenance work, December 20, 2021 in the middle of Death Valley near Golden Canyon.

The second is sunset on the 21st.

Sorry, had to share with all of you!

Since you can’t see the little personalization, you may disqualify these two from judging! No worries.

Beautiful pictures! Is it possible to provide a closeup photo of the personalization “Marie?”

Thank you very much!!

It looks crooked to me, but it must be the phone camera lens?? I used parallel lines when I set it.

Or maybe I did set it crooked…. : >(

Well, I measured from the bottom edge of the upper skin to the bottom of every letter- they all measured at 15/32”…… so they are as straight as they’re gonna get.

Must be an optional delusion!

The bathroom in our Caravel makes it uniquely ours.
I made the sink cabinet & cover for toilet tank of aluminum & had them powder coated, "alien silver". made the sink too. can't remember the color though.
also made the cover that hides the Pex that runs along the floor under the window. Buck riveted & powder coat.
I just didn't like the plastic bathroom that came with it. the parts were in really rough shape too. Click image for larger version

Love the cartoon and classic name personalizations and the custom bathroom is amazing! While Airstreams are indeed wonderful on their own, they are not complete without the imaginative and custom touches we put into or onto them…….gives them a soul if you will. Thank you for your entries.

What makes our Airstream uniquely ours? Well, I wouldn’t change a thing in our 2006 Safari SE. It’s perfect the way it is! Okay, the previous owner did add LED lights overhead and the floor was redone with wood laminate. But what makes ours unique to us is how we use it. For us this is truly a travel trailer. We really enjoy experiencing other places and people. We also tow with an unconventional set-up in the eyes of others here in the USA. We have added a Renogy solar panel, an e-bike for two, and cannot say enough about how amazing the Hensley Arrow Hitch is, which came with our Airstream we bought in 2017. We also like to share our Airstream with family members; towing it and setting it up at nearby state parks for our parents and adult kids to enjoy. So what makes our Airstream uniquely ours? It is ours and we are grateful that we have it! A “Condo on Wheels” as I refer to it and so thankful to have it during the pandemic. Table Top Mod

We have a 2018 27' FB Twin Globetrotter. We always felt the table took up too much room when you walk in the door. And, we wanted an opportunity to have U-shaped seating up front to open it up if we wanted.

A later year Globetrotter does this, but we didn't like the drawer slides that support it and didn't like the fact that the full-size table had 2 parts to it that sometimes didn't line up right.

We had a corian fabricator make a smaller tabletop for us as well as a smaller piece to use if we wanted to use the area as a bed. The corian matches up well with the kitchen countertop. The attached pics show the result to give us our unique look.
