Evan, wow! Not many Airstreams make it to Masset. I did not know it was even possible so thanks. You may wish to put Meat Cove on your list. I will definitely go to Agate Beach. Perhaps do a little fishing off Langara. This is the stuff dreams are made of. Jim

eheffa, those photos are surreal. The first one reminds me of an Emily Carr painting. Ironically, she travelled around in a rustic trailer - more like a gypsy caravan - during her most productive years.
I heard the ferry ride can be as wild as the terrain - that discouraged me somewhat - thought it would be hard on the trailer, but the island is definitely on my bucket list now.
Thanks for sharing. Wow!

The chowder at Meat Cove makes the trip worthwhile. But the trails are a bit rough.

Thanks Jim,
I looked up Meat Cove. It looks beautiful. I'm not sure if we have been there...hmmm
We did a cross-Canada trailer trip in 2000 with our 3 kids & got as far as the North end of Newfoundland. We camped in Sidney NS & explored a fair bit of Cape Breton Island but I don't remember that cove. we would likely have been quite pleased to camp there. I guess we'll just have to go back.

Thanks.
We were lucky. We had pretty calm crossings both ways but it's expensive. ~$1400 CAD return for the two of us and the 45' truck/trailer combo. OTOH we had our accommodation with us.
Speaking of Emily Carr? Forgive me for a little Photoshop indulgence.

Evan, I was just pricing the ferry as your "Emily Carr" came in. It would be about $2,000 for us, very expensive, but Haida Gwaii is special. Although I have been to Masset, I have not been to other locations on Haida Gwaii or even Prince Rupert, so a summer trip is now on the list, as soon as time permits. Thanks for providing the inspiration via your beautiful photos. Jim

WOW! Great photos bringing back favorite moments.
Ace is right, we often have too many favorite moments to choose. I think on any scale, that makes us very fortunate people (who seem to like aluminum)...
Please keep the stories and photos coming, maybe it's your favorite wildlife encounter while camping with good friends at Assateague?

There is not a single road trip we've ever taken that doesn't have some great memory in the front of our minds.
This past years trips started out with a little bit of a different twist ......
..... I know everyone remembers last winters cold and snow. One consequence for us was the very late start to spring tripping .....
..... here is some evidence.
Pictures are of our back yard towards the "end" of winter - then the first trip at the very end of May and into June - floating ice on Lake Superior from Porcupine Mountains State Park and then the same, but now a little farther out, from the Munising Municipal Campground - and finally, the first sunset cruise of 2014 along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore the day the ice blew out ...... well into June.
If you've never taken a sunset cruise to see the Pictured Rocks - well - you've missed something ....

We had a rainy trip to TN, KY and NC but the morning we chose to drive over the mountains to Asheville couldn't have been more perfect

I suspect you'd remember it if you had been there. There isn't another place like it, even on Cape Breton Island which is chock full of unique places. It's also a bit challenging to get to, so you'd remember the trek.

Keep the "Favorite 2014 Airstream Moments" coming. If your Airstream is shop bound in the midst of a restore, you're favorite moment might be the first square foot of polishing (or more likely the last square foot of polishing), or finding the floor and frame in good shape. Let us know your favorite moment.
Thanks,
Roy and Marie

Evan, love the Emily Carr rendition!
Priceless!......(like her paintings).
Here's another one of those I found a treasure at a flea market stories. An elderly couple (parents of an acquaintance) recognized one of her sketches at a flea market. They purchased it for $5, then sold it to a collector for 8k.

We didn't have as many Airstream moments in 2014 as I would have liked. Other things took up time. We got married, went to Spain for a couple of weeks... It was all great of course, but I wouldn't mind a few more trailer trips this year versus what we had last year.
My favorite from 2014 would have to be when we took our cats camping for the first and so far only time. Eliot, the orange one, loved it. Stanley, the tuxedo, not so much. But that's okay. We fried green tomatoes from our garden and all was well with the world!
Happy New Year!
