Two days left on this months photo contest. Looking for those pictures/captures of something you were surprised by, didn’t expect to see, or just made a lasting impression on you. I know it’s going to be tough for me to pick a winner because it’s so subjective. Also some may not be the most interesting picture just to look at but totally a great photo when placed in the context it was seen/photographed (e.g.post #32!).

Got me. As you can see, there are no signs explaining what it is. It is off to the side of the parking lot for the EBR-1 Breeder Reactor Museum, Idaho National Labs, near Arco, Idaho.
It was inhabited, too. Click attached image for larger view.
If you are into the early days of nuclear energy, this is your place. There were some pretty whacko projects explained at the museum. The one that really got my imagination was the nuclear powered supersonic jet. Of course, the shielding for a nuclear reactor is enormously heavy, so the proposal was to shield the cockpit only--open air nuclear reactor. Guess you wouldn't have any problems with tail gators--be irradiated to a glowing crisp.
Link in case you want more info.

If you glow in the dark, you don't need a night light.
Cheers,
Burnside

Such an intriguing find - and then to pick-up on the owl taking advantage of the “whatchyamacallit”!
Thanks Burnside

Well, it is time to pick the winner of the February Photo Contest. We actually enjoyed all your photos and the stories behind them which makes it difficult to pick one winner (you know, that individual who receives all the accolades and honors in this high-stakes competition). In all there were 29 photos submitted by 14 participants. So, here it is - the winner is post #53, ducks, from InsideOut. What really made it funny were the expressions of the couple inside that “All Ducked Up”Mobile. It looked like she wanted to not be associated with the person beside her and he was busted!
Thanks again to all who shared their unusual and unexpected pictures from their travels. And thanks to Peter for helping us get it started this month. We will personal message our winner and look forward to seeing what they pick for the March contest.

We were off road on a small 4-WD trail for a little fall-color last September and came across "this" in off a little narrow access road between Nederland & Black Hawk (middle of nowhere!). They were nice enough to pull over so we could pass. Ducky.

Thanks Steve and Debbie! Wish it was a photo I was proud of....ha! It was certainly a surprise to run into that in the middle of no where...it still makes me laugh!!!! I’m sure there is a story....
I’ll start up March’s contest later today...I’ll have to put on my thinking cap.
