August 2020 Photo Contest

Thanks again for the honor of getting to pick the August 2020 photo contest.

As we sit here in Florida studying the path of the latest hurricane, I’m inspired to select Wild & Wonderful Weather as the August 2020 photo contest theme.

Photos of the beauty, drama, power or aftermath of any aspect of our weather will qualify, provided all or part of an Airstream is in the frame.

Think gathering storms, lightning strikes, snow piles, hail damage, flooding, thermometers reading off the chart temperatures, fallen trees - and of course weather in happier times, including rainbows and sunsets.

Maximum 3 submissions per person please. The story behind what is pictured is welcome but not required to win.

Best of luck!
Joe

Picture in My Mind

Oh, I do wish that I had a photo of my Mom, in her 1960-ish dress and apron chasing after our old Airstream as it independently careened down our driveway in the October 12, 1962 Columbus Day Storm! Imprinted on my memory! Fly Away, Little Bird! Fly Away! Off to seek it's own adventures. (It was subdued into submission with a tractor.)

Pic 1. Trying to fine the house after twin EF-4’s passed on Easter Sunday.

Pic 2. Only minor damage to airstream parked under cover thank goodness

Pic 3. Looking much better after panels replaced. Nice life pod after digging out of the house. Stayed in the Airstream during home repairs and cleanup then airstream repairs completed last week. Both home and airstream good as new. Happy Campers again!!

Ouch, but repairable

The forecast was for light showers not a heavy, tree felling squall!

Arizona should be in the middle of our monsoon season. We've been over 110° for 34 days and little to no rain. However a storm did blow in last night, ominous clouds, lightning, beautiful colors in the sky and a rainbow in the dust.Click image for larger version

Not an Airstream per se, but keeping it in the Wally-family! These are of our Curtis Wright Model 2 (since sold) after a snow storm a couple of years ago...

Wild mountain weather in Virginia while towing from Ohio to Washington DC August 7. Cars were hydroplaning off the road due to heavy rains and I-70 was closed. Somehow it always happens while my wife is doing the driving. I unintentionally caught a picture of our Airstream in the mirrors

Radio waves of course. You can still find them out there in the ether.

I'm a sucker for sunrises and sunsets... I caught this glorious sunset reflected in our front window cover at our first WBCCI rally in Osceola, Iowa.Click image for larger version

Thanks to all who have submitted so far. Only four days left in the month, so please keep them coming! Remember, wild and wonderful weather includes ice, snow, rain, threatening/beautiful clouds, mountains of mud, hail and hail damage, amazing sunrises and sunsets, etc. - as long as all or part of an AS appear in the photo. Taken while sitting at the campsite with the Airstream, If you look closely, you can see the aluminum reflecting off the moon
