Bob I just talked with Susan and learned she has a 62 Airstream. Since the body and caps changed in 64, will my window frames from the(67) fit her her 1962 trailer. Her trailer has 7 segments, mine has five. I'd hate to pull all those rivets and ship her something she can't use.

Guess the bottom line would be the dimensions of the riveted frame ... simple enough to suss ...

Back to the 56FC
Last week between distractions I finally got the first 4' of new plywood in place. I won't bolt it down until I get the next piece in position.
I removed the torn up wheel well, curb side, and had the local sheet metal shop make me a new one. Of course the street side had to be take off to have a good template. I guess that's the way it goes, you take more apart than you want to, to fix a problem. I apologize for the fuzzy wheel well photo
Once the next piece of plywood is installed, I'll remove the section by the door and find out how much welding it's going to take to repair the step mount. I'll take lots of photos.

57 13 segment Ohio built # 3459
I just couldn't pass this one up. I love the large side windows I really didn't need another one since I haven't spent any time with the 56 lately. Once all the lower body aluminum is replaced, the three segments replaced, and the windows are repaired, it will be a good candidate for a new interior. Is it worth all the work?

I completely fell behind on this thread. The antenna plug is the one on the outside of the trailer and is white with two slotted screw wire connections.
Thanks.

believe it or not there seems to be a $500 or so airstream on craigslist around here once or twice a month if you want to drive somewhere in the state to get it. Most are from the west side so everything wood is rotten, mold everywhere, and rust, but hey just time and money fix that.

And you know "nothing" about those "$500.00" Airstreams, do you Scott?

I watch many of them, but have no real driveway or storage area. If I lived on a farm I'd have one heck of an airstream hoarding problem. Fortunately Wally has the same problem. But yes I will be adding another 63 to the list soon, a 30'. Just have to go pick it up.

There is, coincidentally, a 1956 whale tail Flying Cloud for sale near me for $1500 right now...

Hey Dave....I saw that on Craigs....BAD>>>>BAD>>>>BAD.
So bad I can't believe it. The bad part is that I probably know the seller. Why in the world sacrifice a really good Whale Tail Cloud just to pilfer the windows...for an obviously other project. Those windows are available other places.....save the whole Cloud.

There's another one in the background. :/
I have an account with Binswanger glass so I can get great prices, so for me the glass is not an issue.
However, I am mistrustful of his statements about the frame, which are "weaselly worded" to say that he knows a part of the frame is ok.
That said, even for a ground-up restoration with a heavily repaired or replaced frame, $1500 is in the ball-park. The glass would be around $150 all in.
If someone in another area is interested in this trailer, and wants me to go look at it, I can.

I don't read that like he's taking the glass out, though, Dave. He's taking the Hehr windows like Robin is saying. Starting a 50's restoration without the Hehr windows is going to make it very very difficult. Got to be about the most difficult thing to come up with.
cheers,
steve

Well, in that case, to my mind he's destroying a historical artifact, more or less.
