Door lock key - 1956

I acquired this summer a 56 FC without a key to the door lock. Images of the lock mechanism are attached. Can anyone advise me about how to get a key that operates that lock? I am willing to take the mecanism to a locksmith, but if there are any special tricks, please let me know.

Does anyone know if this is the blank that I need?:

Thanks, Hank

Try Out of Doors Mart. They sell several keys for vintage airstreams.

I had the same issue. I went to about 4 or 5 locksmiths - no luck. Finally I found one and he reworked the entire lock and made me several keys. Just keep looking.

Old locks are hard to repair is what I found out. Some don'e want to take the time because they can't charge enough for the time they put in.

Good luck.

If you can get the blanks most GOOD locksmiths can make a key . I know I had crossbed toolbox issues and also roll-around toolbox lock issues. I tool those locks out and took to my local locksmith. He had no problem makin keys for either the tube lock or regular pin type locks. Just keep lookin you will find an OLE LOCKSMITH that knows what he is doing.
GOOD LUCK
Roger

Vintage Trailer Supply

They have two different types of Bargman blanks....one old and one newer....if you have the original Bargman lock, you will need the older one....my local locksmith told me he wouldn't guarantee the key if I brought in my own blank so I let him make a duplicate of my Bargman for now from a blank that looks nothing like the Bargman blank....but I plan to order the correct blank from VTS and take my chances. I did succeed in getting new keys for the door lock. I took the lock mechanism to a locksmith recommended by a good hardware store, and the locksmith made a key that worked. He had to grind down the bottom of the blank to make it work.

Thanks for the assistance. Hank

Hopefully your lock is better than mine! Pretty much any key that fits will open it!

Flying Cloud Lock

I too have a 56 Flying Cloud that is a new acquisition and need a good lock mechanism and key. My local locksmith has been working on mine for several days and the best he can do is make me a key for a badly worn mechanism. Has anybody found something that will replace the original tumblers etc?
