Zipper coming loose

Has anyone had to “glue” back the zipper track back into the window shade? We have a small section where the zipper track edge is pulling away from the fabric. Wondering about best repair glue? I know the windows get hot.

When we brought ours in for service, the tech mentioned that he spend a lot of time with a heat gun on the window zippers. It sounded like he heated up the adhesive to reattach it.

I solved the problem by removing the black window trim, removed the window shade and used heavy thread and needle to attach the shade to the base. Did this on my 2017 16ft BC and eliminated the problem. Extreme heat of summer softens the glue and the fabric separates from the base. Dave

Same issue here

We have the same issue. Brought the 2021 back to the dealer for a different repair. The tried to use the “new” glue but it didn’t last the first sunny days. I also plan to use another method. I was considering drilling holes in the plastic and using small bolts with washers to secure them.
I like the idea of seeing them too. Can you send a picture and a materials list?
Thanks for the post!

This seems like a warranty issue. Our 2021 Basecamp 20x has the same issue. Have the dealers been good about fixing it under warranty?

Good morning, the same happened our our '18 BC16 and then again in out '21 BC20X. Great to see that Airstream continues to see the problem happen but does nothing to improve it!

This summer I removed all of the black frames (probably 100 screws!!!) from the trailer and used 3M 90 contact adhesive spray to reattach. All I did was peel off the Velcro on the frames, sprayed the adhesive in a very uniform single pass on both the frame and the backside of the Velcro. I never removed any of the old adhesive as that would have been nearly impossible. The key is to let the spray tack up for 1-2 minutes before marrying them. I let the frames cure for almost a week before reinstalling the blackout shades. So far, so good, they are holding strong, even after a 14 days in the 100+ degree heat of southern Utah. After that trip, I tried to peel a piece off and it did not budge.

I've had the dealer re-adhesive the window screens twice already. I'd guess Airstream never tested the adhesive for summers in the Southwest.

Airstream warranty for the screen/privacy panel adhesive is only 12 months versus the 36 months for everything else. It is a questionable design choice.

Bummer… I contacted my dealer’s service department and they told me they would “fix it” by reapplying the adhesive strips. I told them I didn’t want to pay for work that I know would not last.

It’s poor design that they continue to use. I’ll try some of the suggestions others have tried and fix it myself the right way.

Very simple solution

Our zippers have been coming loose for the last two years. Our solution has been to reach around the window side of the zipper when the black shade is unzipped and pushing them back into place. Not a very glamorous solutions but very easy and effective for a month or so. Eventually, I will need to take the window shroud off and apply a more permanent fix.
