Want to see BaseCamp 20

I just bought a Ford F-150 to tow the travel trailer I intend to get in the summer of 2021; my new home, for the rest of my active life.

My current favorite, after much online researching, and a few hours of walking around in travel trailers at one large nearby RV dealer, is the Basecamp 20X. I'd put a deposit down right now, to get mine in Airstream's manufacturing queue, but it's hard to drop $50K sight unseen. None of the local Airstream dealers have one in stock, nor do they expect to have one until April, much too late to order it for the summer.

Does anyone know where I can see one? I'm willing to drive up to three days to do that (1200 miles from southern Vermont). If you have a BaseCamp 20 or 20x, I'd be willing to pay you to see yours (after you vet me via text here, then phone, to ensure I'm serious about my stated desire).

Have you tried Colonial Airstream in NJ, their website shows one in stock. I understand that they are the largest Airstream dealer in the US.

Colonial Airstream in NJ has both 20x and 16x show models in their lot. The dealership is really a destination and worth the trip!

I called Colonial Airstream. I didn't ask about the 16, but they DO have a 20X demo model, which they will NOT sell, just for others like me, who are not rich enough (or have not enough faith) to drop $50K sight unseen. Unfortunately, the wait time on actually GETTING a 20X is now 12-14 months. Which takes it off the table for me. I may go there anyway, just to see what I'll be missing, and to see if another Airstream offering will satisfy my needs at a price I can afford.

I had a moment of panic last night over the change of life I've been contemplating. F-150 purchase is tomorrow. Large down payment cashier's check is on my kitchen table. Once I get the truck, NOT getting the trailer would be a pretty absurd move. Wish me luck.

Billstclair, that’s crazy about the lead time being 12-14 months. I have to believe some of those in production must be going to dealer lots possibly not already sold.

When we bought our Globetrotter, the dealer had several on order already. They modified one to meet our preferred color and options with Airstream which cut down on the lead time.

Definitely go see a 20’ Basecamp X and if you like it, call around to dealers and see if any of them have one on order but not spoken for.

Did you see the video walk-through by Patrick at Colonial? If not, check it out here.

I think Airstream hit a home run with the 20X and the production backlog proves it. Good luck!

ONLY trailers with firm customer orders are being built, period. NONE for stock units.

Colonial AirStream has two 2021 Basecamp Demos sitting side by side, a 16x and 20x. We were just there!

Wow, I wonder how long dealers will last if their lots are empty with nothing to sell walk-in customers? Crazy times!

I just ordered my 20X from BT Campers in St. Louis. Their Airstream rep told them July for mine, so 9 months.

Wondering if you got a trailer also?

Don't give up! Last month we were able to acquire an April slot on a cancelled order. We had to call a few dealers, and left our information with them. After a couple of days we got a call back from one and put the down payment/deposit on it right away. The unit had all the options we wanted (as well as the microwave that we probably would have declined). Another dealer thought they would have a June option coming available. Thankfully the one that called us back is in our state (though not the closest!) and is a 5 rivet dealer (in fact we favored calling 5 rivet dealers thinking they might have higher volume sales). When we decided on the Basecamp 20x as our trailer I thought any hope of summer 2021 adventures were dashed, but the effort paid off!
