Ventilation

Greetings,

How is the ventilation in the Base Camp? I love to sleep with windows open whenever possible. I believe the only BC option is to open the two doors with the screens in place and the fan on to draw air through. Do any sections of the wrap-around window open? Do you feel safe sleeping with the doors open, be it from people or bears? Do you end up using AC on moderate days/nights because you can't get the interior comfortable?

Pretty much personal preference, but we leave the windows and the roof vent open if it is too warm. Roof fan is noisy even set low.

We have used the AC a few times at night, but only when it is humid outside. Spent two nights camping in Charleston, SC. 100% humidity. AC made it tolerable.

Thinking about getting a quiet roof fan.

As for safety with windows open, they don’t open much. Anyone/thing wanting to pry a window open wouldn’t really need it to be open. You could probably rip it open with a screw driver or fingers if you don’t mind breaking a nail.

I’ve used my AC a couple of times but find leaving the side vent windows and the two roof vents open provides good circulation on most nights. Never left the doors open.

We don’t have an A/C and we will sleep with the doors open and the windows and roof vent. We have a small fan we place on the counter blows the air across the bed. With the doors open we figured its no worse than being in a tent. No more or no less secure. We can leave the door at the rear open now and it will not blow shut as was the problem before we hooked up a latch on it. The dog did alert us to a bear outside one time about six am. It’s nice to have the fresh air
