tire pressure monitoring systems for BC 16X?

I pick my new to me 2022 Basecamp 16X this week!

Are TPMS necessary on Basecamp 16X?

I would like to know if other Basecamp owners use a TPMS on their Basecamps and if so which one do you use.

Any other thoughts regarding TPMS for Bsecamp 16X would be greatly appreciated.

Guess the question to you is, how important is it to "know" your trailer tires are not going flat? I know on my car and truck, I appreciate knowing the tire pressure, and getting an alert if something happens. Has saved me several times over the years to be able to pull over when I hit a screw and one of the tires is going flat. Inexpensive insurance and helps on a trip to be able to watch your trailer tire status. I know it's a Basecamp with only 2 tires, and there are situations, where if a blowout, the TPMS may not be much help, but knowing if one tire is going flat or is overheated and may blow, could help you avoid costly damage. I watch the temperature of all of my tires on my 28' AS during trips, and the TPMS has saved us a few times from getting on a freeway with a low tire.

Chances are you will not know the tire is going down until it’s flat if you don’t have a TPMS. If you’re lucky it won’t damage the trailer.

Think of the TPMS as the canary in the coal mine. Wouldn’t it be better to know in advance before you have a catastrophic failure?

We have a TST 770 monitor with cap sensors and I wouldn’t want to travel without it. YMMV

I used a Tire Minder two sender trailer TPMS on my Base Camp 16X for 4 years: https://buy.minderresearch.com/sku/TPMS-TRL-2 The receiver was solar powered and always displayed both the tire pressure as well as temp (important for wheel bearing issues or early warning on blow outs due to heat). The only issue I had was the display wasn't as bright as I had hoped for and I had to manually turn on the backlight in sunlight / sunglasses - etc.
I recently upgraded to the Tire Minder I10 system - the display can mount in more locations (not solar powered) is brighter and it also seems to update pressure and temp info more often? I use a 4 sender system and put the additional TPMS transmitters on my Base Camp spare and my TV spare. Overall - very pleased with both Tire Minder systems.

FWIW you can easily see the tires with your mirrors while you are on the road. You won't be able to determine a slightly low tire but if it's significant you surely will. When I stop I feel the tires and hubs for heat.

I would strongly suggest a TPMS for your Basecamp. We use a TST system. We don’t use the repeater. Easy, cheap and effective. Keeps me from looking in the rear view mirror at the tires.

Contrary to my earlier post, I'm interested in a TST system after reading all the comments, thanks. Question is, with a BaseCamp 16x is the repeater that comes with the kits necessary? On Amazon 2 sensors are $106 and the display included power cable and mounts are $106. If the repeater isn't needed on the short rig it would be very reasonable,

We used the repeater on our 23’ but do not need it on the 20’.

The $106 is just for the caps, not the monitor. It assumes you have a monitor. You need the caps and the monitor, separate from the repeater question.

It’s clear that, for some reason, you don’t want to get TPMS.
Let me assure you that with a one axle trailer, you want to know immediately if you are losing tire pressure.it could easily be disastrous without it.
Cheap insurance dude. Buy it.

We have it on our 19' Bambi and while I agree it is nice if not necessary to have I would suggest it is even more vital on larger (two axle) units where it is possible to not realize you have a flat until too late and there is substantiale damage to your trailer. On a single axle you should realize it, a flat that is, even without a TPMS virtually immediately. Though a TPMS will notify you of a slow leak or low pressure.

We use one of these TST systems on our Bambi 16. No repeater.

We use the TST TPMS. We have a 27' Globetrotter and tow with a RAM 2500. When I first got the TST I thought I would try it without the repeater. The TST system works well with our rig without the repeater.

And I agree with others. I would not travel without a system to monitor the tire pressure.

If you get the TST system and find you need a repeater let me know via a PM. I'll send you the one I don't use at no cost.
