The oldest Airstream is a Basecamp?

Does any have any information on the trailer in the attached photograph?

I am told it is the oldest Airstream in existence.

Looks like a Basecamp to me!

More information is appreciated.

Dr. Holman’s 1935 Torpedo from the Popular Mechanic’s published Byam plans. I think.

Bubba, you are correct. On display at a museum in Texas.

I stopped at that museum in Amarillo two years ago and it is one you should not miss.
I hope this picture comes through.

You will notice the 10 red stars on the Torpedo as the family were Wally Byam members for over 50 years!

Jack Sisemore is a life member of the club and was assigned the 1935 number.

That's because they copied the Torpedo when the made the first Basecamp, and rev 2 is a based on the first rev.

There is no conspiracy theory!

Yes, exactly what he said. The Basecamp is quite literally about the most "retro" thing made.

The new Basecamp is what caught my attention and got me on the lot. My wife fell in love with the Sport 22’ size and bathroom, so I didn’t end up with one. I really dig the Basecamp, but my one complaint was that at 5’11” I was not able to stand in the kitchen and see outside (looking straight at the top panel above the window).

Very cool to know it is based on the most original Airstream model!
