Sun Explorer 2 - Solar Controller

Hi all,

I'm a airstream newbie 2019 basecamp X with Solar.

If your battery isn't fully topped off , Mine was at 80% 12.4 v on the charge controller. Reading the manual there is a way to top it off.

I was getting a N_C in the charge status. I played with the battery on / off and moving it around wasn't sure if something came loose.

Sun Explorer II Manual says: "User can force the charge controller to top off the battery voltage, provided there is sufficient PV voltage to do so. By pressing the select button and holding, it will cause the ddisplay to blink the 'n_c' 3 to 4 times telling the controller to go into charge mode. The LED Color changes to red and the dipslay indicates 'chr': then release select button. "

page 4.

Hope that helps! i was a little confused with it always saying 80% on a sunny day. Maybe that will give me some extra juice.

Are you saying you've run into a situation with your factory solar where the controller won't start charging unless it's 12.4 volts or less? I've experienced something like that where it's not fully charged but above 12.4, full sunlight and the controller display is showing it's doing nothing, charge-wise.

I've also been trying to understand the SunExplorer controller and monitor functions.

This YouTube by AS ( ) says no solar charging until battery voltage falls below 12.4v. In contrast, the SunExplorer II manual says on pg 12, "...when the trailer loads draw the battery down below 12.7VDC the controller begins a new charge cycle."

So could this difference be because the YouTube was referring to flooded batteries vs the AGMs that are installed by AS in 2019 trailers (see table below)?

Thanks for any help/explanations...I always learn a lot on these forums.

State of Charge Sealed or Flooded Lead Acid battery voltage Gel battery voltage AGM battery voltage 100% 12.70+ 12.85+ 12.80+ 75% 12.40 12.65 12.60 50% 12.20 12.35 12.30 25% 12.00 12.00 12.00 0% 11.80 11.80 11.80

Not sure what N C mode is but when our controller display gets wonky, I take it off the wall and reseat the Ethernet connection on the back. Itís like a hard reset.
