Well, we picked up our Base Camp this morning and I'm happy to report that it tows like a dream. Our tow vehicle, a 2000 2500 series GMC cargo van, hardly knows it's following behind. The stock GMC mirrors have plenty of coverage - a good thing since the aftermarket strap on mirrors I bought don't fit the stock GMC van mirrors very well.
We put about 100 miles on the van/trailer combo today, just checking it out on the Interstate, county roads, and city driving. No bad habits so far. My only complaint has nothing to do with the trailer or tow vehicle, it's my neighbor who always manages to park his cars so it's difficult to get my truck into the driveway even without a trailer! Once he moved his car, backing the Base Camp into our drive was easy.
We're taking the Base Camp to Massachusetts for Thanksgiving. I'll post more about how she handles on longer trips...
BTW - this beast does turn heads! We stopped to see some friends in Red Bank NJ on the way home. Parked on the street, a local architect came running out of his office to check it out. He loved the design.
