The E2 may be a bit overkill, but it was not a waste of money. A bit of WD improves ride quality, comfort and handling even for this situation and the sway support won't hurt either. Sure they could have gotten by with nothing, but I don't know anyone, after having an accident saying they wish their setup was less stable or handled poorer.

I am with Brian. I have never towed a Basecamp so I don't really know "if" you can tow safely on the ball. You certainly can give it a try. I also don't know anything about how sturdy your TV is but I am pretty confident it is not like a big 3/4 ton pickup. When you drop the trailer on the ball see if it remains level. Drive it around and see how the steering responds, see if there is any wiggle going on when you are at highway speeds. How does it respond to windy situations and what do you feel when being passed by a semi? After all of that you might be just fine without a hitch.
Personally I need a WD hitch. The tongue weight of my trailer is pushing 950 pounds. The WD part returns some of the weight to the front (steer) axle which makes things more stable. While I have a WD hitch I went with one that has built in sway control. Sort of a win win for me. If you are leaning away from any hitch at all, give it a try but please pay attention and if you don't feel comfortable take it back to the dealer and get one installed.

My experience

We took delivery of our 2020 BCX about one year ago. The dealer was about three hours away, and I brought it home with just a ball and weight appropriate receiver hitch and a P3 brake controller. It towed very well when empty, on a clear day, behind my tacoma. Once home I installed an equalizer 6000 WDH with sway control. It is relatively easy but working around the propane cover is cumbersome. I would recommend you take off the propane cover while installing the sway brackets. Everybody loves what Setup they have, as do I. 12 trips so far and no complaints. One side note, e2 hitch’s are made by Fastway. Equalizer hitches are made in Utah by equalizer and sometimes called e4 hitch’s bc they have four friction anti sway points instead of two. Another note, when adjusting the brake controller, many recommend using trailer brake lockup on dry pavement as a reference point. I have never been able to lock up the basecamp brakes with the controller. It is an amazing trailer have a blast!

UPDATE

I am now getting a Bambi 16RB instead of the Basecamp 16X. Far as I know dealer is still doing the e2. I still have so much to figure out especially since I will be heading to colder areas (winter FT yes). Ack! Thank you all for every but of help!
