Driving with beds made

Heya - really simple one: is there any problem with driving while the seating area is made up as the bed?

Only if you're trying to sleep in it while driving...

..and even that is legal in some states!

States That Allow Riding in a Travel Trailer

The following states do allow you to ride in a travel trailer. However, each one has a different description of what kind of RV qualifies, so check your local laws.
Arkansas
California
Indiana
Iowa
Kentucky
Michigan
Mississippi
Missouri
Nebraska
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Oregon
Rhode Island
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
West Virginia
...but I sure wouldn't want to!

I sure don't want to have a roadside debate with an officer about what the State of Georgia meant by the words, "Riding is permitted in towed pickup campers" under the Trailer Other Provisions section of the state Motoring Laws when addressing passengers in a "trailer." Either way, I'm pretty sure there will not a be a digression into whether the bed(s) is/are made or not.

I have less problems traveling with the table down for a bed. When the table is up it has caused problems. There are a few threads on how to stabilize table so it doesn't fall.

Here is funny. While driving through Middlebury, VT, my wife's Lasix kicked in big time. We were right in the middle of the town with wall to wall road construction. So at a red light I told her to make a run for the trailer bathroom. This was before cel phones so we agreed that when it was safe to leave the TT and come back to TT I would blow the horn. Well, a person jumped out in front of me, and without thinking I blew the horn. Fortunately, I was moving very slow as traffic was really backing up. Luckily I saw my wife in the mirror exit the TT and immediately stopped and let her get back in the TT. There were cops everywhere trying to control the traffic around the construction, but none paid any attention to us going and coming to the TT.

True. We ALWAYS travel with our tabletop down because we've seen what can happen if you don't.

I know the construction is different in our vintage and a modern Base Camp. But when we first got our '56 Safari, the table was very wobbly. As we were doing our restoration, we found out why. Two of the vertical structural ribs were busted right where the table was attached. The table bracket was only attached to the skin and there were obvious signs of multiple attempts to secure it better by the previous owner. Lots of holes & rivets!

Not sure if the ribs busted because of traveling with the table up or someone sitting on the table, but when we re-built it we replaced those two broken ribs & added an extra horizontal rib for reinforcing for the table bracket.
