dimensions of rear hatch? possible emoto inside storage?

I've been searching forever, sorry if this is available someplace online. Anyway, can someone tell me the dimensions of the rear hatch?

I've been looking for the original basecamp so I could bring a motorcycle and can't seem to get a hold of one.

I know everyone says don't do this, but I've found an electric motorcycle (zero fx) and the specs say that without batteries, it only weighs 200 pounds, so aside from hatch entryway, I don't see why I couldn't bring the moto on a trip inside a basecamp. I've seen pics on the basecamp fb page of people storing bicycles between the benches with proper tie downs etc.

Any thoughts? (tow vehicle is an suv so that's not an option)

How are you going to tie it down. There’s a big difference with a 200lb. Motorcycle coming loose compared to a 20lb. bike.

Welcome to the forum.

Here is the 2021 Basecamp manual:

https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...ers-Manual.pdf

The dimensions on p. 4-3 [PDF p. 27/90] do not include the rear door information, unfortunately.

These "Basecamp rear door size site:airforums.com" search results may help?

https://www.google.com/search?q=Base...=airforums.com

. . . although I don't see anything specific.

Not sure which year you mean by "original" but other manuals are available here: https://www.airstream.com/owners/man...nuals=basecamp

I used to carry a dirt bike inside a van all over. With the front wheel up against something solid, and proper tie-downs, this worked fine. You may need to finagle the ends of the handlebars through the door, but guessing this will work IMO.

Good luck,

PS -- I would suggest contacting Patrick Botticelli at Colonial Airstream in NJ for more details . . . guessing you are not too far away from this excellent dealer.

They have good videos which may assist:

2017: https://youtu.be/Cw9PSLSmrQs
2008: https://youtu.be/W4zTSSN0Jkw

In that last video . . . double rear doors at 1:10 and 1:54 -- a huge opening, is this the year you mean?

2008 Basecamp manual: https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...-manual-96.pdf

Rear doors on p. C-5 [PDF p. 36/105] but no door opening specs at end of the manual.

Patrick, or another sales person, will be able to point you in the right direction. They may actually have a good used 2008 Basecamp in stock, or in their database IMO.

Happy Trails.

Thanks for all the info! I'll definitely call Colonial Airstream in NJ, it's about an hour from my mom's house anyway.

And it's crazy that this information is not anywhere on the internet or in the manual!

I guess I just realized another concern would be hatch height, but honestly, I'd change my places about the moto and buy almost any motorcycle that can get in there.

I did not realize that the original BC had double doors like that. Wow . . . depending on weight and space, you could put a fairly large MC in there without much effort IMO.

Please keep us updated, and say hello to Patrick . . . a long time ago but he was very helpful during a variety of RV searches including a Travato at one point.

Have fun.
