Damaged spare tire
This is the message I sent to Airstream Customer Service this morning:
Folks, I found a problem with my 2017 Basecamp that you might want fix on future releases and warn dealers about. My spare tire went flat and when examining it I found a sizable hole where the sidewall meets the tread. Looking under the trailer I found a couple of sharp pointed self tapping screws sticking out of the bottom located where they rubbed the spare tire. Traveling down the road caused enough rubbing of the tire on these screws to wear a hole in the side wall ruining the tire. There is no other possible way that this hole could have gotten there as it is on the side of the tire that faced the trailer, and that spare tire has never been removed from its mounting before. I fixed the problem by crawling under the trailer and cutting off the offending points with a dremel tool. I believe you folks should reimburse me for the cost of a new spare tire.
I’ll post about any response I get from Airstream
