Composting Toilet in a 16 BC?

I'm looking to buy a new 2021 Basecamp, but only if I can fit a composting toilet in the bathroom. I checked one out at a dealer, and it looks like one would fit. I'm thinking about an Airhead toilet as it is a wee bit smaller than the Natures Head toilet. Can anyone confirm that one of these will fit in a basecamp?

Seems like a natural for a Basecamp. You may get some responses to your post from the composting toilet haters out there in Forum Land. Ignore them. One important consideration is the Basecamp has a wet bath. I'm not sure a composting toilet is a good idea in a wet bath. You don't want excess moisture getting in the solids tank. I would ask the two toilet manufacturers what they think of this.

I'm hoping someone has either done this or tried to do this in a Basecamp and can let you know how it turned out. If that doesn't happen, recommend you make a template out of cardboard cut to the dimensions of the Airhead if that is your choice and go back to the dealer with your template and see how well it will fit in the space. In addition to the footprint of the toilet itself you will need some space to open the toilet, space for the crank so you can turn it easy, space for the vent hose (depending on where you are going to vent the toilet), a source of 12V nearby for the fan, and a place to vent it. We have a Nature's Head and vent it into the black tank vent stack.

Having compared the two toilets the Airhead is definitely smaller. It also has a smaller solids tank and smaller liquids tank I believe. Some folks prefer the seat on the Airhead over the Nature's Head. One drawback of the Airhead to me is you need to keep a stock of what are essentially large coffee filters which you need to use for "number two". Another difference is on the Nature's head, the fan is mounted on the side of the toilet. On the Airhead the fan is mounted on the wall where you vent it. Either approach works as well as another, the question is which will work best for you.

Hope all goes well with your install. If you have any questions on how the install was done for our Nature's Head toilet, please PM me.

Steve
