Best place to hide gun and other valuables?
The only feature I feel the 16 has over the 20 is this hidden lockable storage.
Where do you guys hide a gun and/or other valuable in your Basecamp 20X?

Ha. I actually thought of that as soon as I posted the thread. Should probably have worded it differently.

Hmmm. Well, I have read many posts where peoples' entire trailer/RV has been stolen, so hiding place or no, the contents of that trailer are someone else's now.
So my suggestion would be first to not leave anything in a car or trailer that you can't afford to lose. Second, if you feel like you have to have a gun, get a concealed carry permit, and keep it on your person all the time--at least then if you really need it, you'll have it. Speaking of which, none of the people I know who have concealed carry permits still carry--guess they realized it was more hassle/liability than practical and useful.

Hi
For me I think that spot is too accessible and would require the addition of another hard mounted single gun /valuable safe in it to consider that specific spot partially secure.
I think if we’re talking about the balance between convenience, having gun safely secured, and being able to access firearm in a reasonable amount of time. What reasonable, depending upon your camping circumstances. Do you feel the need to get to it within five seconds midday or are you talking about being able to access it within 30 seconds in the middle of the night.
For us it’s 30 seconds from asleep and likely 10 secs during the day. Yes concealed carry while hiking where allowed legally but still need to store it safely and not be held criminally liable if found. A locked hard mounted gu safe fits requirements in those states. Sadly, a friend lost his child many years ago from inadvertently and quickly not securing. Wasn’t his standard practice.
Good luck stay safe

The thought of having my entire trailer stolen is terrifying because I'd have my dog in there and she is priceless to me. Is there a thread of tips to keeping your trailer secure while away, meaning unhitched and unattended?

I'll be traveling with a dog. So I'm more concerned about an animal attack (like a bear getting too close) than any problem with people.

I generally keep it (them) in an add on storage drawer in the bed of the truck. Clamshell on the bed that locks and in addition the drawer will not open unless the tail gate is down. The tailgate is on the trucks locking system.

How often and for how long would someone leave a dog in an unattended trailer?

Only weather permitting. So west coast where there's no humidity and 70 or below. She would be with me most of the time, but for some activities like mnt biking and rock climbing, she'd have to stay in the RV for a few hours.

best to leave it at home. there is no need for a gun in a trailer.
if caught with one crossing a national border, the are large fines and penalties

As a solo female traveling and boondocking for a year, I definitely need some type of protection. No plans to travel outside the US with the trailer. Just visiting the 63 National Parks while working remotely full time.

I think this is unreasonable to suggest: a potential thief, is reading the forum, then locating anyone’s trailer, and then breaking in to said trailer in the hopes of finding a gun, Far easier for a thief to use your reused sign-on here, and from other sites, xrefernce the screen name, city, and PII, then reuse that data to locate your information for identity theft.
I believe we would be hard pressed to find a single member who had their gun stolen from their secret hiding spot, and we could find 100 members who were victims of identity theft or online scam. I hope every member knows GOOGLE sweeps and stores all of these forums posts, and if there is PII that’s more dangerous than a gun / money hiding place.

Absolutely don’t mess with National borders. The local PD could likely store gun for you if you crossed and returned to the same place. It’s done at airport PD frequently.
There are some specific concealed carry / permits which allow crossing all state borders though I’m not aware of National Parks exemptions ( likely federal officers could legally, I wonder ? )

I found I spent more time worrying about the firearm being stolen, or driving through a less than friendly state, (Like Illinois between Nashville and St. Louis.) I've never had items stolen at campsites nor have I encountered any zombies at KOA.
So I just stopped bringing one.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle
We do carry guns with us on the road. We do not leave them in the Airstream when unattended. With over 2,200 nights and almost twenty years on the road, we have never had an issue.
