Gained awesome space inside Basescamp
Hi Basecamp owners!
My wife and I happened to see a great space gaining solution for our 2018 basecamp on YouTube.
We made a cut on the side foldout boards and hinges down to the size of the shorter back cushions. You need to have an 1/8” gap between the cut so the boards pass each other with ease.
This allows us to have the bed setup and keep a table top set up at the same time. It also allows us to get to some storage under the bed easier when the bed is set up. For sleeping we just drop in the shorter table post , cover it w the 2 shorter cut boards we now have and the 2 back cushions and pull the foam mattress topper we use down to cover it. That converts it back to a king size bed ! during the day just pull the foam topper back towards the back door to approx a full size bed and set the taller table in place. Then use the 2 smaller cushions as back cushions at the 2 seats that are created in either side of the table .

This was an awesome improvement!!! Gives us so much more room to move around when 2 people are in the trailer . Airstream execs take note ! This is a very easy and inexpensive modification that is guaranteed to be a hit with basecamp enthusiasts .

I would definitely look at doing a gas shock off on the side instead to avoid the above mentioned smack on the head.

Little gas shock from princess auto should work great in this application, few others have done it already as well. I will be doing it here over one of the next few weekends. I'll share photos once I am done

the vent allows a lot of light to go through which sort of defeated the purpose of the blackout blinds.

i bought this and am extremely happy with it. You need to unscrew the frame and tape some magnets but it took 5 minutes. It makes the interior basically completely dark and does a great job of absorbing some heat.

I would recommend every basecamp owner to get it

Hey AS Basecamp owners ..Has anyone added like a half wooden table to the countertop and added cushions for a kids/todler bed? A Flat suface that fits over the counter and hangs over a bit with two fold out support legs. Collapsible of course for when not in use.

Hack-a-way bed.

There was a guy on the facebook page that was looking at getting a fold out support piece that would go over the counter. I'll do some searching and see if he ever finished it.

I recently purchased a 2020 Basecamp X. I want to install a TV. Small, probably 22". I want to mount it on the exterior bathroom wall. What is the wall made of? Can it support a TV mount? What type of screw would you use?

Yes. I did this. I will post pictures when I get the mattress. Probably today. It is three pieces or 12" malmine board cut to the shape of the kitchen area sitting on 1.25" pegs with rubber feet to sit above the stove/sink/etc. It has feet to hold it up in the void between counter tops. I am a grown man and it supports me great. It is 6' wide at the widest point too.

I use command strips by 3m they work quite well. That way I can move it any rime anywhere. I even put it on the outside to watch football, last season. I don’t know if you’ve used command strips before but they have coat hooks and other gadgets that all work great in the basecamp.

We purchased the Weber Q1200 "Airstream Edition" grill (from Airstream Supply Co.) that came with the proper hose to connect right into the outdoor LP port. I use a natural Gas Weber at home and cook out every week - I was really impressed with how well this little grill cooked. We also ended up ordering the 1/2 griddle grate replacement for it. It's great to be able to cook as much as you want outside.

We found the baskets in the Basecamp to be quite inadequate.... so time for custom!

Local custom fabrication guy that I do photos for (Railings and Houses) is upgrading our baskets. All three will be 3/8th square bar, powder coated black. We will be changing out all the hooks in the galley to match, as well they are doing a custom towel bar to be 3m'd onto the glass next to the fridge.
